Summary: Micky followed along, not because he wanted to. Sure, he liked being around Jae, but he went because, really, he hadn’t anything better or more interesting to do. And Jae definitely made things interesting.
Disclaimer: Characters not mine, never were, but it's just fiction. The base story, however, is mine. Shoo.
D:
Despite their first night of fun, Micky found it nice when Jae wasn’t in the room. Jae was always striking up some sort of conversation. This in and of itself wasn’t altogether bad. Sure, Micky responded to everything, but when Jae was gone, he didn’t have to make the effort, and that was nice. Once classes started though, Micky saw him even less. When they weren’t in class, Jae was often out and about somewhere, and Micky wasn’t his mother, so he didn’t bother trying to care. He had a decently courteous roommate, and it was probably the best he could ask for.
Micky spent his time studying with Junsu and Changmin, using his powers for good by stopping them from squabbling loudly in the middle of the library as much as possible. When they made him tired, he would head back to his dorm and either find it blissfully empty, or blaring with rock music. The music would, of course, respectfully end if he pointed at his books. Jae would pop his headphones on and Micky would continue studying in peace.
“What does he do when he’s gone?” Junsu asked, pressing his pencil into his chin.
Micky shrugged as he scanned the thesaurus for a good synonym. Technically, they weren’t supposed to talk in the library, but some of the people who did tutoring were louder than them.
“He’s got to do something.”
“I’m sure he does.”
“You never asked?”
Micky sighed. “I’m not his mother.” He’d said this three or four times now and was beginning to wonder.
“What if he doesn’t come back?” Junsu had the decency to look worried.
But Micky just snorted. “Then I get the room to myself again and you can bicker like an old married couple in my room instead of in public.”
“How kind of you,” Changmin muttered as he scanned the index of his textbook. “When does he get up in the morning?”
He blinked. “What?”
“You said you never see him. Does he sleep in?”
“Er, actually, he gets up before me.”
Both Changmin and Junsu stared at him, then said in unison, “What?”
“Not like way before me, but like ten minutes so he gets the bathroom first. But he doesn’t shower. I think he goes out running.” He shrugged, not knowing what else to say “Why?”
They looked at one another. “You made it sound like he was lazy,” Junsu answered as he sat back.
“He does seem lazy. If he’s there and I come in, he’s usually just sitting and reading,” Micky told them. “On the weekends, he comes back from parties smashed and just falls into bed without a word.”
“He gets drunk? He’s not 21 yet, right?” Changmin asked thoughtfully around the sucker in his mouth.
“I don’t think he is, but he could be. Maybe he took a year off between high school and college.”
“Does he have hobbies?” Junsu asked, now extremely curious.
“…getting drunk?” Micky tried lamely as the other two snickered. “He has a ton of books and music, and he collects these gray cats.”
Changmin raised an eyebrow. “Gray cats?”
“Yeah.”
“What does that even mean?”
Micky shrugged. “Beats me. There’s thirteen on his desk.”
“Thirteen?”
“I counted.”
Junsu shuddered. “Creepy.”
“Maybe he has a cat,” Changmin suggested.
“Yeah, well maybe he’s demented.” Junsu poked his pencil against his chin again. “I mean, everyone on campus that I know already knows Jae, but when you ask them what he likes or the classes he has, no one can give me a straight answer, besides saying that he’s a really nice and funny guy. Maybe he’s like, a ghost or something, haunting your room.”
A stack of books slammed onto the table as Jae deposited himself in the seat next to Micky. He set his sidebag on the table and leaned back with a sigh as he grabbed the book on the top of his stack. In an anxious silence, Junsu’s and Changmin’s eyes kept leaping from Jae to Micky and back again, as if trying to will him to say something. Micky was so shocked by the sudden appearance that he couldn’t even form words.
“There’s a couple in the room to the right of ours having very loud sex at the same time every day. They complained about the loud music I put on to drown them out. So I set off a stink bomb. It would be wise to stay out of the room and maybe the entire floor for a while. Well, the entire building for that matter.” And then he was silent.
A grin split Micky’s face as he imagined the reaction. “What did they do?”
Jae shrugged. “I left before it went off, but there is a feeling of glee right here,” he tapped on his chest, “that just won’t go away.” He gave Micky an evil smirk as Junsu and Changmin dissolved into giggles.
“You gonna get in trouble?” Micky asked as he finished chuckling and turned back to his book. So the guy knew pranks. It seemed their friendship might go somewhere after all.
“Maybe. Doubtful. I set it off right in front of their room so it would waft in faster.” He smiled at the book. “Hopefully they’ll learn more stealthy ways to go about their business.”
“Nice!” Micky got a fistbump out of Jae and went back to his studying.
“If you don’t mind me asking, what were you doing when you were back in your room?” Changmin asked as Junsu kicked him under the table.
Jae stared at him for a moment. “Studying.”
“Oh.” Changmin shrank a little as Junsu and Micky glared at him, surprised by his sudden utter lack of brain function. Luckily, the atmosphere lightened as they got back into their studying.
Eventually, Micky’s phone buzzed at him and that was his cue to leave. He began to gather up his things and shoved them into his bag as the others glanced up.
“Where ya going?” Junsu asked.
“A few appointments,” he answered as he hoisted his bag over his shoulder.
“I probably won’t see you til later tonight,” Jae said suddenly, not looking up from his book.
“Oh, okay,” Micky replied with a nod, wondering what prompted the notice. But he didn’t bother asking as he said his goodbyes and made his way off campus.
He pulled out his moleskine to confirm the address of his first stop, the optometrist. He’d run out of contacts just before the semester started, and with all the expenses of getting him new clothes and books and well, everything, his father asked him to wait a few paychecks. He didn’t mind wearing glasses, but contacts were so much more convenient. And they didn’t look quite so geeky. He had a girl mooning over him in his Poetry class and he was hoping a change in his look would keep her from thinking he was so ‘deep.’
Finished there, Micky made his way down the street to his favorite barber, the fact that he didn’t need glasses for this making him quite content. He walked right in, asked for a short cut, and the man who took him was only more than happy to get rid of the mop for him. Afterward, Micky nodded at the short hair in the mirror, pleased by the change. He’d needed this.
He returned to the optometrist to pick up his new glasses and paused outside when his stomach growled. Well, it was late, so dinner should be in order.
“Oh my god!”
Micky looked up to see Junsu walking up with Changmin and Yunho. Odds be damned. Junsu immediately pointed at his forehead and started laughing like a madman. The other two glanced at one another in confusion as Micky suffered through it with a sigh. He batted Junsu’s hand away, but it just came back and set off another round of laughter.
“It looks good,” Yunho told him as Changmin nodded encouragingly.
“It’s so wiiiiiiiiide!” Junsu gasped through his laughter.
“Nothing is wider than your derrière,” Micky shot back as Junsu’s laughter dissolved as he scowled.
“HEY!”
Satisfied in shutting him up, Micky turned to the other two and ignoring bag of chips in Changmin’s hand said, “Hungry?”
~*~
When Micky returned to his room, Jae was true to his word, he was nowhere to be found, and it wasn’t that late yet either. Micky put the leftovers of his food in the fridge as he contemplated. Friday night and he had nothing to do. Junsu had to go to a cousin’s birthday with his brother, Changmin was not technically old enough to go out, and Micky didn’t know Yunho well enough to crash his plans. Well, he could have gone to a movie with Changmin, but he wasn’t in the mood, and he’d spent enough of someone else’s money for one day.
He decided to finish up some homework he’d started earlier and then slipped the book he’d been recently reading off of Jae’s shelf and settled down on his bed to read. He paused and wondered why he didn’t try to do the reading for his Humanities class, but put the idea away. This book was much more interesting. He’d rather read about what the dog saw than Pompeii. **
He was at the halfway point of the book when he realized he hadn’t checked his email and decided to hop online for a while. ‘A while’ turned into a few hours of clicking on links and getting further and further away from his original intention. He was reading about phobias when a key clicked into the door and Jae made his way in and went straight into the bathroom. Micky didn’t hear sounds of retching and considered himself lucky to have a roommate who could hold his liquor.
“Phobias, huuuh?” Jae asked as he leaned over Micky’s shoulder. “Y’know they won take Wikipedia as a viable source, right?” Leave it to Jae to use ‘viable’ when drunk.
“It’s not for a class.”
“Oh,” he moved away and Micky realized he’d been smelling the alcohol on his breath. “Link hopping?”
“Yep.”
“Ah, you’re lame, stayin’ in on a Friday night to link ‘op.” He grabbed the book on Micky’s bed. “And readin’ my books!” He snorted and sighed.
Micky ignored him and closed the browser. He tensed when Jae leaned on him again, reaching out to click around on the buttons of his laptop, opening the browser again.
“What are you doing?”
“Chill.”
“If you’re going to a porn site…”
Jae glared at him, or as much of a glare as he could muster with glazed over eyes behind his glasses. “I’m having you add me on Facebook you idiot.”
“Oh.”
“Don’t worry, I don’t post anything lewd. Not that I post much at all.”
“I just didn’t want a virus.”
“Oh, well I’d recommend some sites but I don’t think they’d be to your taste,” he replied offhandedly and finally closed the browser. “There.”
“Thanks?”
He waved a hand as he walked away, then stopped and turned back. “I like the hair, by the way.”
Micky wondered briefly if that was because he liked it or because he was drunk. “Thanks.”
“Welcome.” He flopped down on his bed and pulled his headphones closer. “You look cute.”
Micky was struck silent by the offhanded compliment and struggled to say something, but Jae already had his headphones on and his eyes closed. With a sigh, Micky turned back to his laptop wondering if he should have said something. No, this wasn’t the time or place. Especially with Jae drunk. As before, who knew if he would have said it when sober. Maybe he was just being nice. Besides, it was late and time for bed anyway.
He went about his business as Jae shifted, putting his arms behind his head. Micky headed into the bathroom and when he was finished, he returned to find Jae passed out on his bed, headphones over his ears, the music not quite so loud. He was still fully clothed with his glasses on and Micky couldn’t help but grin at the sight which was becoming common.
He pulled his blankets back and paused to look back at his roommate. A glance back and forth from Jae to his bed and back made him feel like an idiot. Who was going to see him? Trying to ignore the two undone buttons at the top of Jae’s shirt, he crept closer and slipped Jae’s glasses off to set them on his bedside table as quietly as possible.
Biting his lip, he considered waking Jae to get him out of his clothing and into pajamas, but nixed the idea. He was being creepy enough as it was. With a shake of his head he got into bed and flipped the light off. Once again, Jae’s lamp softly lit the room and Micky was too lazy to get up and shut it off. He just stared at Jae’s profile.
“This is bad.”

Chunface and Joongie remind me of me and my friend. x'D Only my friend is a bit of a combo of Jaejoong and Junsu.....>___> That sounds dangerous, doesn't it....?

Date: 2011-11-30 06:05 am (UTC)things I like about this chapter: DRUNK JAEJOONG and the MINSU Combo!
and of course, the HAIRCUT! i'll forever have a love-hate relationship with Micky's haircuts in real life. that sometimes i'd like to go all-kill on whoever his stylist is! but he got some good times...he looks real better in short hair.
Jaejoong's character has really piqued my interest.
