Part 3

You touched the glass of the window he stared out of as his eyes took in the view of the shimmering water as the sun began to set on the horizon. He yearned to be on the beach, feeling the sand between his newly made toes, but found it difficult to realize this when he was standing three stories up in a mansion behind a window. At least he could probably open the darn thing and smell the sea air.

He turned to the servant that was making up his bed and waved, trying to get his attention. “Excuse me?”

“Yes sir?” The red haired, short man trotted over to him obediently.

“How… does one open this thing…?” You asked a little embarrassed.

“It’s a window, sir.” He smiled and pointed at two clasps at the center. “When you unlock these, you can open it,” the servant said as he demonstrated just how to do so.

“Thank you!” You smiled happily and closed his eyes as the air flowed over him.

“Gackt said that you weren’t from around here,” the shorter man commented as he went back to making the bed.

“Yeah,” You replied as he pulled a chair over to the window and sat in it. He laid his arms on the sill and rested his head on them, enjoying the air. He didn’t know he’d miss the ocean so much.

“You tall, dark and handsome types always get all the girls,” the servant mused aloud. “I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun while you’re here.”

You turned and smiled. “Tall, dark and handsome?”

The red head turned as he chuckled. “Yeah. Girls tend to like the tall guys.”

You then noticed how short the servant was compared to him. “What’s your name?”

“Ren.”

“Well, Ren, I don’t think it matters how tall you are. People should like you for who you are, not make you into what they want,” he said honestly.

Ren smiled, nodding thankfully. “That’s a thoughtful idea. Thank you.” He then hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Anything else you have questions on? You don’t seem like you know about anything modern.”

“No, I don’t.” You smiled, blushing a little.

A knock echoed in the room and Ren excused himself to answer it. He suddenly pulled the door all the way open and bowed, moving out of the way as Cha walked in, Gackt following him. The two dismissed Ren, who waved at You then left.

You stood and turned to the two, not really knowing what to do or how to greet them. He then realized that Gackt was dressed nicely, a far cry from what he’d been earlier in the afternoon. Instead of wet and dirty, he was wearing some nice black pants and a long sleeve, button up black shirt, a few buttons at the top left open. His hair was styled perfectly and his eyes were… blue? You then realized those blue eyes were inspecting him as well.

“You look nice,” Gackt smiled.

“Your eyes…” You stared at them confused. “Why are they blue now?”

“Oh,” Gackt said as he moved closer and put a finger up to his eye. “I wear these contacts that make them look blue.” He used his finger to push it to the side a little to reveal his brown iris before letting it move back to hide the brown.

“Why?” the brunette asked very interested, still looking at his eyes.

Gackt shrugged. “Aesthetic value I suppose.” He then looked around the spacious room and nodded as if to approve. “Are you settling in alright?”

You smiled. The man seemed to be concerned about him being comfortable there. “Yes. The servants were really nice. Though, I had to send them away so that I could bathe in peace,” he told the blonde, remembering having to force the servants out of the room so that he could clean himself alone.

Gackt and Cha laughed. “That sounds like something they would do,” Cha told the taller man. “Just tell them anything and they’ll do it. They’re pretty good about not twittering over people when it’s unwanted.”

“Tell that to the girls,” You muttered, annoyed.

“That’s why I gave you a male servant.” Cha grinned.

“Good,” You replied and sat on his bed, testing how soft it was. “This is so neat…”

“It’s your bed. You’ll sleep on it,” Gackt told him.

“I know what a bed is,” You told him and chuckled. “I promise I’ll ask if I don’t know what something is though.” He stood again. “There is a question I have for you though.”

Gackt raised an interested eyebrow. “What’s that?”

“You’re really a prince here?”

The prince nodded. “My older brother will be taking the throne when he gets married in a few months. I’m the youngest. I have an older sister as well, but I don’t know how much you’ll see them.”

You nodded as he thought. So he’d really gotten lucky. He’d met and become friends with the prince. He would be privy to some libraries he’d heard about then, hopefully, and be able to learn a lot!

“Why do you ask?” Gackt pulled the chair away from the window to sit in it and looked expectantly at the brunette.

“Well, see… Hm, how do I explain this?” You paced a bit, stopping at the window to look out at the sea. He sighed quietly as he suddenly longed to go back and see his mother. He’d seen so much already and wanted to tell her all about it.

“Miss your home?” Gackt asked from beside him. He must have gotten up to see what You was looking at. “Wow. The sunset is beautiful tonight.”

You nodded in agreement as they looked out at it, finally turning to the prince, trying to figure out what he wanted to say. “My mother, she gave me this pendant.” He reached into his shirt and pulled out the iridescent crystal and looked at it sadly. It suddenly made him miss her even more.

“That changes you into a human?” Gackt asked as he eyed it curiously.

The brunette nodded and took it off to show them. “I have to wear this to stay a human, not all the time, but specifically in water. If I touch a lot of water without wearing it, I’ll turn back, and I don’t particularly want to because it’s quite painful.”

Gackt took the chain and placed it back around You’s neck. “We don’t want that to happen then.” He looked You in the eyes. “I won’t let anyone take it. We won’t.”

“I’ll make sure that none of the servants come in your room except Ren and I.” Cha bowed.

“Oh, excuse me. Where are my manners?” Gackt smiled and pulled You over to Cha. “You, this is my personal servant Yukihiro Fujimura. His nickname is Chachamaru, so we just call him Cha. His family has been serving mine my years so he’s more of a friend than a servant.”

“It’s nice to formally meet you Cha,” You said and smiled.

“Now, we’re going to teach you a few manners up here, okay?” Gackt reached out to take You’s right hand and hold it out to Cha. “When you meet someone for the first time, or just see someone again, you hold out your hand and shake the other person’s.” As Gackt said this, Cha took You’s hand and did just that. “It’s just a polite way of saying hello to someone that might not be a close friend.”

“Interesting,” You murmured as he let go of Cha’s hand.

“Cha will teach you and Megumi more about some of the manners and etiquette here when we go to dinner… now.” Gackt looked at this wrist.

“What’s that?” You looked at the metal on the prince’s arm.

“It’s a watch. It measures time,” Gackt told him as he showed the brunette the face of the clock.

“I’m really going to need to write this stuff down or something,” You said as he smiled.

“I’ve been meaning to ask.” The blonde let his arm rest at his side and looked at the merman seriously again. “Why are you here?”

“Oh.” You smacked his forehead. “I meant to tell you that before. My mother gave me this pendant so that I could come up here and study humans. We’ve had some of our people come up here and do the same before, but information is slow in getting back to us. My mother knew I was very interested in humans, so she gave Megumi and me the pendants.” He looked out the window again, watching as the last sliver of the sun settled below the horizon. “I didn’t come here to get information as much as just wanting to learn about you all myself. Humans were always fascinating to me.”

“Well, this seems like a diplomatic trade,” Gackt mused aloud and sat in the chair again. “You saved me from drowning, and to pay you back for that, you can stay here as long as you like. But, if you want to learn from us, I’d like to learn from you as well. We’ll teach you all you want, but I want you to tell me about the world underwater.”

It didn’t seem like a big request, but You didn’t know if he should give away any information about his people without consulting them first.

“Only me. I won’t tell a soul,” Gackt tried to convince him. “Hell, I won’t even tell Cha.”

Cha waved his hands with a smile. “I don’t even really care to know. It doesn’t interest me much.”

“Well, I guess that’s a fair trade,” You replied slowly. He knew he shouldn’t be suspicious of the prince. He seemed like a very good man, and You didn’t feel anything bad from him, but was too nice to try to read the prince’s mind. He was still cautious since he was of noble blood below the water and he’d learned that nothing came easy or without some sort of price a lot of the time. He didn’t have any options anyway at this point. It was far easier to trust Gackt than to turn him away, especially when the prince was being so generous.

“Do we have a deal?” Gackt held out his hand.

You shook his hand. “This solidifies agreements as well?”

Gackt smiled. “Yes.” He stood and stretched for a moment, then turned to Cha. “Well, dinner then?”

“I hope it’s something good.” You smiled, his stomach protesting the wait.

“Your friend Megumi should already be there,” Cha told him and turned to move toward the door.

Gackt threw an arm around You’s back. “Now, this place is huge, so Cha and I will try our best to teach you your way around. We’re going to the dining hall now, so do your best to remember where to go, alright?” You nodded quickly, ready for his lesson. If he didn’t get it the first time, he could always make a map or ask for directions. “Good, shall we?” The prince smiled and led You and Cha out, pointing out various rooms as they were passed.

You found himself staring at everything, very intrigued with all of the objects and designs he saw. A smile was firmly planted on his face as more new things kept entering his view. The time he spent in Gackt’s home would be very interesting. It was just after Gackt pointed out the library that You stopped in amazement.

“A library?” He looked through the halfway open doors, his eyes wide, filling with excitement. There were so many books! He wanted to read them all.

“Amazing isn’t it?” Gackt murmured in his ear to receive a slow nod. “Come on, I’ll bring you back here after dinner, okay?”

“Promise?” You turned to the prince, looking at him hopefully.

“I’ll bring both of you,” he replied with a smile.

“Thank you.” The brunette couldn’t stop smiling after that. The rest of the way to the dining hall, You wasn’t paying nearly as much attention as he was before. His mind was clearly fixed on going back to the library, and he couldn’t get there faster. That is, until they got to the dining hall.

“YOU!!” Megumi screeched and latched onto his side.

“Megumi!” You hugged her and stepped back to look at her. “Wow. That’s a pretty… dress.” He smiled, proud at remembering the garment.

She blushed a little and smoothed the flower patterned sundress down. “They let me pick out the one I wanted,” she told him and bounced. “It was so much fun!”

“I saw the library,” You told her with a sly grin.

Megumi’s eyes got big. “Really?”

“Gackt said he’d take us there after dinner.”

“Wow!” She turned to the prince and bowed a little. “Thank you.”

“Ah, it’s no problem.” Gackt waved a hand. “I like to read a little after dinner.”

“You like sex after dinner.” A new, deep voice said from the doorway. Everyone turned to see a short brown haired man smirking at them.

Gackt chuckled and replied, “You must be thinking of yourself my friend.” He strolled over and introduced everyone. “This is Hyde, everyone. He’s one of my guests right now. Hyde, this is You and Megumi.”

Hyde greeted them with a nod, his eyes lingering on Megumi for a moment before walking away with Gackt, speaking with him quietly as they walked down the room together. You noticed the way Megumi was oogling the man and nudged her playfully to earn a blush from her. He grinned and trotted away behind Cha as she followed red-faced.

Dinner was pretty uneventful in You’s eyes. Gackt explained to Hyde that You and Megumi weren’t from around the area and You pretty much imitated Gackt as they ate. He felt that he did pretty well considering that he’d only read about how humans ate before, and Hyde didn’t say anything so that was good. Gackt sat at the head of the table, Hyde and You to either side of him and oddly, they’d seated Megumi next to Hyde. It was quite obvious that they didn’t mind, seeing how they flirted during the entire meal. At only point Megumi took her salad fork and ran it through Hyde’s hair, saying how soft it looked and then commented at how the forks looked like the combs in her room. Hyde laughed in amusement and thanked her for the compliment and returned it by saying that she must have had fun combing her hair before dinner because it looked so beautiful and shiny. Megumi positively glowed after that and it was obvious that they weren’t paying attention to anyone except one another.

“So, was the food agreeable?” Gackt asked of the merman.

“It was delicious.” You smiled and looked at his empty plate. “I’ll have to compliment your chef, and maybe find a midnight snack later.” He picked up his glass as Gackt chuckled. “What is this drink?”

“It’s wine,” Gackt replied.

“It’s got that alcohol in it?” the brunette asked. “I read that if you drink too much you loose inhibitions and such.”

Gackt laughed again. “Yes, it can be quite fun if you’re with friends and just acting like goofballs. But, if you don’t have a tolerance and drink too much, you could get sick.”

You nodded. “Acting like goofballs sounds like fun though.” He smiled when the prince chuckled again.

“It is.” The prince winked and finished his glass. “Well, it seems as if we’re both finished. Would you like to go to the library now?”

The taller stood quickly and nodded, his eyes lighting up in excitement. Hyde and Megumi barely noticed as the two excused themselves and trotted off for the library. You couldn’t wait. This was what he’d been waiting for his whole life, to be able to pry around a human library, and very soon, he would be granted his wish.

I realized after I wrote about the library stuff, that it kinda parodied Beauty and the Beast, but not the fact that he wanted fiction like she did, but he wanted nonfiction stuff he could learn LOL

I could never leave Hyde out >D
