8: I CAN FEEL / This is Halloween
Jaejoong and Micky bowed as the entire crowd cheered for their song. Jae could feel a glimmer of pride making it known in his chest as he waved and followed Micky off the stage. It was finally over. He hadn’t exactly been nervous for the performance, but he’d wanted to get it over with so he and his friends could escape and get ready for their trip the next morning. Thankfully, Jae’s hand had healed in time for the show, so no one asked about his hand being wrapped up to receive his cooking accident story. On the downside, before it started, Micky demanded to be able to stay and see all of the acts, especially how Jenna’s performance went over. He’d argued that if they won a prize, it would be rude to have left and Jae just sighed and glowered at him. That was until Micky started to give him a shoulder rub and promised more where that came from. What made the vampire want to give him an open-ended promise he didn’t know, but he wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Once they’d handed their microphones over, Jae sat on a bench and glanced up to see Micky pull his tie loose and lean on the wall next to him. Micky cut a very good figure in the suit he’d worn for the performance. How he’d found one for Jae to match, the young man would never know, but he had a feeling Micky looked much better than him. As Jae admired his boyfriend, the vampire turned to him and smiled. Jae returned the smile, enjoying the way Micky’s eyes lit up and crinkled when he did so. He wanted to draw those eyes, maybe for his art class.
Junsu walked up and smiled at Micky. They had followed Junsu’s singing by three acts and Jae wondered just what was going on as he watched something unspoken pass between the two vampires. Junsu smirked as a devious grin grew on Micky’s lips. Junsu nodded in acknowledgement and wandered away as Micky turned to Jae.
“Come on, I have an idea.” He jerked his head in the direction opposite of the way Junsu went and Jae found himself following the vampire away from the stage. Micky led him through various ropes holding items up on the stage and through some curtains to a closed off, abandoned corner. Micky caught his hand and pulled, then pushed him into the corner and Jae’s brain clicked when their lips met. Greedy vampire; would he never get enough? As their lips parted, someone slipped through the curtain and Jae stiffened as Micky turned his head. It took a moment, but Jae recognized it as Junsu with Changmin following him.
“Predictable,” Changmin said with a smirk as Junsu pushed Micky off of Jae to pin him against the wall.
“Not going to share?” he asked Micky with a hungry look in his eyes. “After all the sharing we did?” His insinuation was not lost on Jae, who wondered if they were anticipating his decision a little too much.
Changmin pouted as he slipped his arm around Jae’s shoulders and the young man tensed, wondering what was going to happen. “How are we supposed to learn how to treat a human gently if you never teach us?” He had a point and Jae assumed the vampire meant his body, not his blood—hopefully. By the way Changmin’s eyes danced, he knew they were teasing, but it still made him a bit nervous. He must have found a way to ignore his thirst since Jae didn’t notice a reaction to their proximity. Then again, he didn’t have an open cut this time.
“I’m sure we’ll have plenty of time after we get back from Seattle,” Micky offered with a sly smile, glancing at Jae who shrugged and decided to play it cool.
Changmin held up a card for Jae and the young man took it, flipping it over to see a driver’s license. It was his, but it wasn’t. The birth date was five years his senior. When he looked up, both Changmin and Junsu had disappeared and Micky was solemnly leaning on the wall next to him.
“Is this…real?” Jae asked nervously.
“Yes.” Micky pushed off from the wall to move closer. “Remember, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. I didn’t bargain you for the ID, like they implied.”
How could he explain that to Micky that despite being nervous, he really, really wanted to? He’d been admiring these three vampires since he’d first seen them; how could he not want to? “I haven’t had time to think about it, but I will,” he promised, realizing he hadn’t actually given it any thought lately. The impending performance and trip had taken up all of his time between classes, homework and Micky.
The vampire made a face and ruffled his hair before stealing a kiss. “Are you sure? Because I’m feeling more enthusiasm from you than that, and now I’m not sure I want to share.” Micky grinned as Jae rolled his eyes wondering how he was starting to feel his thoughts now.
“So, where did he get this?” He held up the ID to change the topic and looked it over. It seemed very authentic.
“Changmin likes doing things like that,” Micky told him and he wondered what ‘things like that’ meant. “His favorite is to hack comptuers.”
At first Jae was surprised. Changmin seemed like the quietest, youngest and least corrupt of them all. But now that he thought about it, the one you least expected was usually the one to be wary of. With their session together interrupted, the two settled for leaving the curtained area to wait with everyone else for the end of the show. They didn’t win, but were pleasantly amused to see that Junsu was disappointed he hadn’t won either—couldn’t he see that with his foresight? Some comedy duo had taken the coveted spot.
Once they were free, the two met Kendra and Ara outside the school to finalize plans for their weekend escape. Junsu and Changmin hovered outside of their conversation and Jae wondered how well this trip was going to go with three seemingly delinquent vampires tagging along. It would be nice to be able to get to know the other two better, but he hadn’t gotten to be alone with Micky much yet. After plans were finalized, everyone said their goodnights and Jae gave a reluctant Micky a shrug as he followed his father to their car and the two made their way home.
Bright and early the next morning, Jae finished his packing and made his way downstairs to see Micky pulling into the driveway with Kendra and Ara in the backseat of his car. Jae hugged his father and ran out to the car to toss his bag into the trunk and slip into the front seat so they could be on their way. Micky had his iPod hooked up to his car, playing random music as the girls in the backseat did their homework and Jae found himself reading one of the books for his English class. It wasn’t long into the ride before he found his eyelids getting heavy and decided to close them for a little while. The next thing he knew he was being shaken by Micky and told that they were twenty minutes from the city.
Jae watched the landscape fly by before it widened into a large freeway with concrete to each side when it wasn’t framed by a massive amount of houses crammed into every free space. He stared out the window, fascinated by the new city. He’d seen how packed Seoul was and while everything looked the same, it was also somehow very different. Micky exited the freeway and snaked through the streets of the city before slowing through what Jae recognized as a school district, the buildings and students walking everywhere on the campus. Micky glanced at the map from Jae’s sister that the young man had printed out and before long he was parking. The girls cheered excitedly as Jae got out of the car to stretch, pushing his seat in the two door car forward let the girls out.
Out of nowhere, Jae was attacked against the car by a black haired, squealing blur. He looked down to see his sister Yoona giggling at him, so he smiled and hugged her back. It didn’t take long for Jae to introduce his friends and for his sister to drag them off to her dorm. She related that most of her roommates would be staying at friends’ houses for the weekend, so they could sleep there if they didn’t have a hotel. Micky cut in to say that they’d managed to find rooms at a hotel in the city and his sister congratulated him as Jae gave him a look of confusion.
“We have hotel rooms?” Ara asked quietly. Jae shrugged and looked to Micky who just smiled and kept following the college student.
Yoona led them into a library and asked if everyone would wait for a little while as she stole her brother. Everyone shrugged as the two girls decided to do some more homework and Micky told them he’d try to find something he hadn’t read and wandered off. Jae wanted to smack the back of his head but was dragged away before he could reach for it. Yoona dragged him out into a courtyard and began leading him around on convoluted routes of the walkways of the universities as she spilled all of her gossip to him and demanded to know some from him. Of course, there was hardly anything for him to tell while she was chattering, but he couldn’t tell her most of it anyway.
“Tell me about your friends,” she prompted him as they sat on a bench in front of a large fountain.
“Hm, well I met Kendra first. She’s the American one. Her mother knows Micky’s father really well and she lived out of country a lot and actually knows some Korean.”
“Nice! You got lucky eh?” she poked him. “Do you like her?”
“If you’re asking if I’m dating her; she’s not really my type,” Jae told her honestly, trying to hide his annoyance.
“And the other girl?” she continued without missing a beat.
“Ara is just like a sister. She reminds me of Yuri, actually.” He smiled, thinking of one of their little sisters.
“And the boy is Micky?” she asked, which sounded sly to him.
Jae nodded. “His father is a doctor in the town I’m living in. He and his brothers have been really nice.” God what an understatement.
“Mmm,” Yoona nodded noncommittally. “He’s cute.”
Was she going to hit on him? “You think so?” Jae asked, knowing Micky would play it up if he could.
“So tell me about these brothers.” She grinned deviously.
Jae blinked in confusion. Usually she would immediately hit on a guy she thought was cute. “His brothers,” he replied warily. “Well, they’re not blood brothers. They’re all adopted.” What was she up to?
“Ah,” she nodded thoughtfully. “So, is he a good kisser?” Jae gaped at her as she grinned. “Well, you come to visit me with two girls you’re not interested and one very handsome guy comes with? It’s not rocket science to figure out that the guy is the one you’re with.”
He couldn’t even think of what to say. She just knew him too damn well. “Yes,” he croaked finally, clearing his throat as she laughed.
“I’m going to assume you’ve been hiding it at home?” Yoona asked as he nodded. “You can let down your guard a bit here. A lot of my friends are cool with it.”
“And you?” he asked.
“You’re my brother. I love you no matter what.” She took his hand and squeezed it, making Jae feel better about everything. Not that he minded if people really knew about him and Micky, he was just very private about his relationships to begin with. He then wondered how private the relationship would be with Changmin and Junsu.
Micky was helping Ara with her English homework when they returned and he glanced up, his eyes focusing on Yoona before moving to Jae. As the siblings approached, Micky reached out with one arm, snaking it around Jae to pull him closer before he could do anything. Ara didn’t seem to notice as she agonized over a question on her paper, but Kendra raised a curious eyebrow. Damn mind reader; he was probably enjoying this.
Yoona suggested taking them around the city and Jae demanded to go to an Asian grocery at some point so he could make his father something good for dinner when he returned. It was then decided they would do a little sightseeing that day, and then hit the grocery the next day so he could take home fresh ingredients. Yoona took them out to various places, especially the Space Needle, which seemed to bore Micky and Kendra who had seen it before. As Jae looked up at the tower, he had this feeling that the vampire and his siblings had probably climbed it illegally at some point.
After they had a late lunch, Micky flipped open his phone when it beeped at him and related that they should go meet his brothers at the hotel where they’d gotten the rooms. Turning down protests to drive her, Yoona decided to take a bus back to her dorm to get ready for a Halloween party to which she’d been invited. She in turn invited them and Jae told her he wasn’t sure of their plans, but promised her that he’d text her. He then hugged his sister and everyone thanked her before packing into Micky’s car to make their way to the hotel.
Junsu and Changmin met them in the lobby to distribute their keycards before making their way up to the rooms. They had three consecutive rooms on one side of the hall, with two of the rooms connected by a door. When Ara and Kendra found out their room was not one of the connected ones, they seemed relieved. Jae asked them why and Kendra admitted humorously that they didn’t want to walk in on either of the couples together. Jae called her a liar and Changmin told her she could set up a video camera in his room if she wanted to. Kendra threw a pillow at the vampire’s head as he ran out of her room followed by a very annoyed Junsu who was grumbling something at him about modesty and privacy. Micky didn’t miss the way Jae eyed Junsu’s ass as he left and smirked at him while Jae blushed and looked away.
Kendra was later horrified to find out that Jae didn’t have a costume for Halloween that night. Micky told him he should have at least something if they were going out to a club or bar, so Jae let them drag him out to a shop and get him something. When Micky stuck a pair of cat ears in his hair and Kendra laughed, Jae knew he wouldn’t get out of this, but he made it clear that he wasn’t going to wear a tail or anything else for that matter.
Later as they relaxed, Jae sat near the window of the room he shared with Micky and watched the setting sun. He wondered just what he was getting himself into by going to a club with everyone. This wasn’t really the first time he’d done any drinking, but that time it hadn’t been in public and so illegal in his eyes. Kendra and Ara had accepted their fake IDs from Changmin with trepidation and admitted they were just tagging along for fun and probably wouldn’t be doing any drinking. He figured they were probably the smartest ones out of all of them.
When Micky’s arms slipped around his waist, Jae leaned back into the embrace with a relaxed sigh. It was just so nice to be able to be themselves without anyone watching or to be wary of. He rested his hands over Micky’s arms and wished they could just stay in the room all night instead of going out, but he knew Micky wouldn’t have that at all. It wasn’t long before their peaceful moment was interrupted by the rest of their group bursting into their room and the girls demanding to put makeup on the boys. Jae pulled the drapes shut as he and Junsu refused and Changmin and Micky heartily accepted. The girls questioned them on their costumes and did their makeup accordingly. Micky was given dark eye shadow and a bit of an under eye shadow as well to make his eyes sink in slightly as it was their vision of a vampire. All Jae could think was that he looked even better than before.
Changmin was given a good amount of eyeliner when he told Ara he was going to be a pirate and the girls rolled their eyes at Junsu and called him lame when they found out he was going to be a Jedi. While Junsu put a bandana over Changmin’s hair and the girls changed into their costumes, Micky sat down next to Jae on the bed and clipped the black cat ears to his hair.
“How did you manage to get the simplest costume?” Micky asked.
Jae scoffed, “Somehow I think yours is the easiest. You don’t even have to put anything on. All you have to do is let your fangs out.”
“Maybe,” Micky said as he moved away to dig through his clothing and Jae went to do the same, as he’d packed something decent for going out in the city before he’d left. Since the girls had taken the bathroom, the rest of them just changed in the room. Once Jae was finished he turned to see Changmin decked out in his pirate gear and Junsu looking far more reserved in his cloak. Micky looked properly gothic wearing all black clothing, chains, spiked bracelets and a collar, and boots with multiple buckles. Jae felt underdressed as he had gone for a more punk look with tight black pants that had straps attaching them, a t-shirt that had mesh and random tears designed into it, and a pair of arm warmers with spikes and lacing. Micky held a travel bag out to him and Jae peered in curiously to find various different accessories littering the inside. He dug through it to pull out a leather collar, some rings he found to fit, a belt and some chains to complete his outfit. As Micky put the collar around his neck, Jae wondered how long they’d been making this collection and just what it was used for besides going out.
When the two girls emerged from the bathroom as cancan dancers, Kendra looked the two up and down and decided to paint Jae’s nails black before he could protest, dragging him into the bathroom for better light. When he glanced in the mirror as she worked, he realized that makeup might not be a bad idea after all. He looked to Ara and quietly asked her to do his eyes. Her face lit up and she sat next to Jae to apply the liner and shadow to his eyes. Somehow, he was used to this as his sisters sometimes used him as a dummy if he couldn’t escape them. He stood when they were finished and looked in the mirror, feeling satisfied with the transformation—far less girly than his sisters’ makeup and much more smoldering. He liked it. As he took out some gel and spiked out various pieces of hair, he saw Micky watching him out of the corner of his eye. The vampire was admiring his new look with a smile playing on his lips.
“I like,” was all the vampire said before he moved closer to steal a kiss. Jae agreed.
The group then decided to go out to eat and afterward made their way to the nightlife center of Capitol Hill to check out the clubs and bars. After picking out a place with decent sounding music, a dance floor and a fully stocked bar, the group made themselves comfortable at a table as Junsu practically dragged Changmin to the dance floor and Kendra asked Jae to dance with her. No one had noticed that Micky’s eyes shining a soft red in the lights of the club, and Jae wondered why. After three or four songs, Jae and his worn out partner returned to the table to hear Micky and Ara in conversation and Kendra stopped to take a closer look at Micky this time.
“Your eyes!” she said loudly over the music and Jae wondered what the explanation would be.
“I was just talking to him about that before!” Ara agreed.
“It’s these contacts I got,” Micky told them. “They only shines under black light.”
Kendra looked satisfied as Jae stayed silent. Micky caught his eye and pointed at one of the black lights above them. “Not as potent as the sun, but the UV waves bring it out a little,” he explained in a lower tone so only Jae could hear. As soon as Jae finished the water Micky had slid toward him, a round of drinks hit the table and the other two vampires returned. Changmin admitted to his being rum as everyone teased him. Jae found that Micky had ordered him something in a full glass that was brightly colored and strong, but it tasted amazing. Junsu had some sort of cocktail and when asked by Kendra, he said it was a cosmo, but protested the girly aspect by saying it was strong and that he liked hard liquor. After talking over the music for a while and nursing their drinks, Jae asked Micky if he wanted to dance, to which the vampire agreed and followed him to the dance floor.
It wasn’t until their second song dancing together that he started to feel the alcohol hitting him. He didn’t mind the blur it put on everything. It made the night slower; made it last longer. As the dance floor filled, the two found themselves pressed against one another, grinding to the loud, pulsing beat. It didn’t take long for Jae to forget where they were and what day it was—he just wanted Micky. Jae stole a kiss that lasted longer than he’d intended. He didn’t mind when he felt one of Micky’s hands pulling his body closer and the other wrapping around his neck to keep their lips together as they moved. When Jae ran out of ways to get air, he finally broke the kiss to hear Micky chuckle over the music. He then heard a suggestion to take a break and followed as Micky led them off the floor. Once they were back at the table to see Ara and Junsu gone, Jae downed the rest of his drink and some of Kendra’s water.
“Want something else?” Micky asked.
“You’re just trying to get him drunk,” Kendra accused with a grin.
“Of course.” He flashed a grin. “I’m sure to get laid tonight!”
“You too?!” Jae pointed at Micky in mock surprise as Kendra laughed. “You pick,” he answered the question finally. He waited as Micky flagged the waitress down and ordered two Long Island Ice Teas. When she returned with them, Jae drank his faster than he’d expected and was suddenly asked to dance by Changmin this time. He seemed to have lost his nervousness that he’d had before and readily agreed, following the vampire to the floor. They ended up doing almost exactly as he and Micky had done, minus the sucking face part. That didn’t come until Changmin had maneuvered him out of the floor and had pinned him up against the wall. Jae had seen it coming, and was ready and willing. It was a good thing he’d gotten Jae to a wall, or he might have fallen down with all the lightheadedness. He didn’t really mind his lips being monopolized at this point because he was sure in his alcohol clouded mind that Micky surely wouldn’t mind if he was just kissing Changmin. And the vampire’s lips were very, very distracting. When they parted for air, Changmin’s eyes unfocused for a moment before he suggested returning to the table and Jae agreed, needing to sit down after having had a taste.
He plopped himself down next to Junsu, who was in the spot where Micky had been. “Hi.”
Junsu smiled and turned to him. “Got a nice buzz going?”
Jae nodded, very happy that he wasn’t dizzy. “Yeah, I didn’t mean to drink so fast. You’re lucky.”
“Oh?” Junsu asked as a try of shots were set on the table.
“Changmin’s lips are yours,” he said, pointing at the other vampire who grinned at the compliment.
“This is true,” Junsu replied with a grin and held a glass out to Jae. “Here, have a shot,” the vampire offered and Jae could have sworn he winked at the other vampire, but he wasn’t sure.
“Okay,” Jae took the glass and touched it to Junsu’s and Changmin’s glasses before they all knocked the drinks back.
“I think the handicapped stall is open,” Junsu said offhandedly as his eyes stared off into space and Jae frowned at him in confusion. It took him a moment before it hit him and he looked around for Micky to find the vampire leaning against the wall casually next to the hallway that led to the bathrooms. Jae excused himself from the table and could have sworn he’d also heard Changmin laughing.
“You wish you could see what I see,” Junsu teased.
“For once, you’re right,” Changmin answered.
Jae was too far away from the table to hear their exchange as he met Micky at the hallway entrance, their hands linking as Micky led them through the crowd and into the bathroom. Indeed, the stall was open and the two slipped into it, Jae flicking the lock home before he pinned the vampire to the wall and kissed him hard. He didn’t realize their positions had switched until they parted and he could feel Micky’s hands undoing the button of his pants and pulling the zipper down.
“Hold still,” Micky murmured softly against Jae’s lips as the young man felt one of the vampire’s canines bite down just inside his lower lip, breaking the inner wall to let the blood escape. He then pressed a kiss to Jae’s lips, slipping his tongue over and past the spot to get what he wanted the most. Micky broke the kiss with a sigh and licked Jae’s lips before his own. Jae touched his own lip with a finger to find a bit of blood on it and licked his lips to clean them. He stopped in surprise when Micky caught up his hand and sucked the blood off of his skin. Jae let out a shuddered breath at the action, wishing he was sucking on other things.
Micky’s eyes lit up as he thought this and Jae realized that the vampire might be able to hear him. He might have seen it coming if the alcohol hadn’t slowed him down. Micky’s eyes flashed silver and the back of Jae’s neck burst in pleasure and knees buckled as he slid down the wall to sit against it. When the feeling began to fade, he watched powerlessly as Micky situated himself between his legs and finally pulled his pants open and freed his cock from the offending fabric. Jae wasn’t even able to take a breath before Micky’s tongue was licking up its length and then took it into his mouth, sucking gently at the hot skin. Jae could only gasp in response, his head falling back against the tile of the wall as he gripped Micky’s shoulder tightly with one hand. The alcohol only made it worse—or should he say better since everything was slowed by the liquor, but the pleasure was torturous. The vampire was slowly milking him for every gasp and moan that floated from his lips. Eventually, he couldn’t even focus and he just stared up at the fuzzy ceiling, helpless to the pleasure as he mentally begged for release. It felt like forever, but finally—finally—he hit his peak and cried out as his fist hit the tile on the floor, a wave of ecstasy flowing through him. He panted deeply as he slumped against the wall, but he was pretty sure no one could hear them over the pounding rhythm outside.
He let Micky pull him away from the wall and soon found himself in the vampire’s lap, straddling it as he leaned tiredly against him. Damn, that was better than anything he’d felt before, and it was only a blowjob. He wondered just what sex with Micky was going to be like as he began to recover. With a deep breath, he pulled back to kiss the vampire, and when it ended, he found blood on Micky’s lips.
“You bled down the side of your chin,” Micky told him and pulled some toilet paper from the dispenser to wipe it away as Jae licked the metallic tasting fluid from his lips and made a face. He could deal with a little, but the taste was getting somewhat disgusting. Micky apologized softly and Jae shook his head, feeling things sway a little bit. When he took a moment to close his eyes, the vampire laughed and teased him for his mental state. The buzz took on a lighter feel as Micky kissed a trail up his neck. He liked that a lot.
Micky finally got Jae on his feet soon after that and Jae found it difficult to even stay on his feet as the alcohol was catching up with him. He sighed when Micky laughed at him and let the vampire carefully lead him out of the bathroom. When they were back at the table, Jae practically fell into the booth as everyone laughed and Kendra rolled her eyes.
“You aren’t supposed to break him!” she scolded.
“He’s only slightly bent!” Micky protested.
“Bent in what way?” Jae blurted out with a grin as everyone laughed again.
Micky pushed a glass of water toward Jae and he realized he was parched, downing half of it again before he slowed down. He nursed his way through the rest of the glass as Junsu flagged down the waitress again and asked for the check. Everyone seemed to agree that Jae had obviously had enough and that Micky would take him back to the hotel, but the other four weren’t ready to go to the hotel just yet. Jae resisted the urge to pout and sipped at his water, wishing he hadn’t gotten so wasted so soon. He glanced at Micky to see the vampire smirking. He had something planned; that much was clear. Good, now he didn’t feel so bad about it. They would have more time alone and less time spent having sex in a public place.
Junsu got up and elected to get the car to give the two a ride back to the hotel as Micky helped Jae get out from the booth. It would be nice when he was back in their room and wouldn’t have to move. This walking thing was getting difficult! A few times he was hit on by men and women who clearly knew he was far gone, to which he happily apologized and said he was taken, pointing at Micky. The vampire just rolled his eyes in amusement and caught him when he was about to trip on nothing.
They weren’tkissing waiting outside for long when Junsu rolled up in the car and came around to the passenger side to open the door. Micky led Jae over and the young man held onto the side of the car for a moment before he leaned down to get in. Everything was going fine until his foot caught on the seatbelt for the front seat and he tripped, planting his face into the backseat. He heard the two girls laughing hysterically and the vampires trying not to.
“Yeah,” Junsu said suddenly. “My ass is definitely better.”
“Agreed,” Changmin replied.
“No comment,” Micky said through laughter.
Jae looked back and tried to glare as much as his glazed over eyes would let him, but he had a feeling it didn’t have much of an effect. The cat ears probably weren’t helping either. Micky leaned into the car with a smile and helped to get his feet untangled before slipping into the backseat as well. With a defeated sigh, Jae leaned against the vampire to feel an arm snake around his back and pull him closer. Good, he didn’t have to move again for a while.
“Junsu gave me a shot,” he told Micky.
“Oh?” the vampire asked as Jae nodded. “What was it?”
“I dunno.” He shrugged and looked at the back of Junsu’s head. “Just read his mind or something.”
“What did it taste like?” Micky asked, ignoring the driver.
“Ummm, cinnamon!” Jae liked cinnamon.
“That sounds delicious,” Micky said as he smirked, his fangs showing as Jae licked the spot inside his lip where the vampire had bitten him. He wondered if the vampire was going to bite him again later, but that thought escaped him as his lips were claimed again. Jae’s memory got spotty after that; mostly the car ride and how they got into the hotel room were the things he couldn’t remember, but they weren’t important. The things that happened afterward—he would never forget that. The memories of Micky moving against, over and inside of him were things that he couldn’t ever forget. He knew he hadn’t felt that way before—not for a long time. Jae found he couldn’t accurately describe the feelings with words, but it didn’t seem to matter. He didn’t have to say a thing; Micky understood without even hearing one word.
When Jae woke some time later, he kept his eyes closed as he remembered where he was and whose body was spooned behind his, arm carelessly wrapped around his middle. He blinked a few times and glanced down in the darkness to see their fingers loosely threaded together. A smile spread over his lips as the hand attached to him squeezed his hand and pulled him closer. A pair of lips kissed his shoulder as he tried not to smile too much. This moment was definitely going to his head.
He was surprised when Micky pulled away and to the end of the bed as he began to pull clothing on. “What’s the matter?”
“I’m thirsty.” Micky stood with a pair of pants and a light tank top on. “I believe Junsu brought something for us, so I’m going to bother him about it.”
“What about my blood?” Jae asked, wondering if it was so important to leave for.
“Just because I can drink it doesn’t mean I want to leave marks all over your lovely body,” Micky replied with a soft smile.
“I don’t mind.”
The vampire moved around to Jae’s side of the bed and leaned down. “I do.” He pressed a kiss to the young man’s lips. “It’s just blood BooJae, don’t worry.”
“It’s sort of disturbing to hear you say that,” Jae said, vaguely amused by their topic of conversation.
“True.” Micky smiled. “And I managed to get some energy out from your shields while your mind was …otherwise occupied, so instinct for needing the kill energy shouldn’t be a problem,” he mumbled as Jae felt his face heat. “I’ll be back soon.” He stole another kiss before he was out the door.
Jae sighed softly and looked around the silent room. Energy from his shields? Micky hadn’t mentioned that he could do it without taking blood before. Maybe it had to do with what they were doing at the time. He glanced to the window to see the curtains drawn back and moonlight was pouring in through the opening. Being pensive in the moonlight seemed rather artistic, so Jae pulled the comforter from the bed and wrapped himself in it before he drug a chair to the window and slipped his sketchbook out of his bag. He sat himself down in that silvery moonlight and once he was sitting, he realized how lightheaded he felt and took a breath to collect himself. It took more effort than he thought it would, but he shrugged it off and opened his book, quickly sketching first the window, then the skyline. He did the skyline again wondering if he could use it for a landscape in his art class and then turned the page. He nibbled on his lip for a moment before he began with Micky’s eye and the way it crinkled when the vampire smiled.
“Hey.”
Jae turned his head in surprise to see Changmin had slipped into the room. “Hi…” He tilted his head questioningly as he closed his book, wondering what the vampire wanted.
“Sorry, I took advantage of you at the club,” he said softly as he moved closer. “Micky was really clear about being careful, and I did my best.”
Jae felt himself blushing as he remembered his lips being occupied by this particular vampire for a time at the club. “It’s okay. I think it was mostly the alcohol, but if knew each other better I probably would have done it anyway. I’m sure we’ll be doing it more in the future.”
Changmin smiled and let out a nervous sigh as he pulled out a chair to sit next to Jae. “You know, I had only thought of humans to be used because that’s what I was taught after I was changed. But when I saw you and Micky together and his self control, I was a little jealous,” he admitted and Jae frowned. “Don’t get me wrong, I love Junsu, and Micky is very dear to me because we’re all so very close. I was a little jealous that you’d managed to steal him from us. Then I was a little fascinated with you and started to like you too,” he said with a laugh. “I’d never really thought about someone else joining us; especially a human.”
“Do you have to call me a human?” Jae asked, wondering if despite their actions, they weren’t human anymore.
“Sorry,” he apologized. “Force of habit. I would look down on them and use them for energy.”
They didn’t just drink blood; they could steal energy too, Jae reminded himself and wondered just where Changmin was going with this. He seemed to be rambling a little.
“I’m sure Micky told you about my power?” he asked.
Jae’s mind groped for the answer for a moment. “You feel emotions?”
Changmin nodded. “But I can’t feel anything from you. I’m not really sure how I should act around you. I’m so used to reading a person’s emotions and reacting that way. This is the first time in a long time that I’ve actually been nervous about how to react in front of a person. I actually have to read you by your eyes and body language.”
Jae held back his amusement at how Changmin found it a challenge and continued the conversation. “Micky told me I have some sort of shield around my mind. We’re going to try to see if I can control it with practice when we get back,” he explained as he wished he knew how to control it more.
“Ah,” he said with a nod. “Well, I hope that someday you will share a few of those emotions with me.” He flashed a pleasant smile.
Jae’s stomach fluttered anxiously and he wished he had the courage to do more when he wasn’t drunk. “I’m sure I will.”
Changmin’s smile softened. “I’m glad. I like having you around. You seem to have Micky tripping over his own two feet for you.”
Jae grinned at the description. He wasn’t sure about Micky tripping, but the vampire did seem to be having trouble now and then when he was frustrated about not being able to read Jae’s mind.
“I want you two to stay together, so I’ll try to let your relationship grow before I butt in. I apologize in advance if I say anything too bold. I’m used to being snarky and teasing them a lot,” he added, making Jae laugh and thank him. The two then exchanged good nights and Changmin went back to his own room. Jae stared after him as the door shut and he felt a bit better.
So Changmin’s power couldn’t penetrate his shield either, but it seemed Junsu’s could. Maybe it was because they were powers that needed his mind to work and Junsu’s didn’t rely on it. It was then his mind drifted back to Micky saying he’d stolen some energy earlier in the night.
He remembered Micky telling him about absorbing energy back when they were in the forest, but he had gotten distracted by forcing his blood on the vampire. Did they use the energy to stay alive, or was it used to amplify their powers? He didn’t know much about old religions, but he knew that in more ancient history people believed that using an animal as a sacrifice drew energy when it died. Sometimes, they even used humans. The vampires were obviously doing the same thing, or else how could Micky use those powers and abilities he had—especially without depleting his own energy? He wondered how it all worked and found he could understand the addiction behind the need now. Feeling like you could control that much power could really go to a person’s head. You might feel that you wouldn’t be able to stop if you needed to, and in some cases that you didn’t want to stop. The thought made Jae shiver even within the warmth of the blanket. How could a person ignore the instincts that told them to drain all of the blood and energy from a being when their heart was telling them not to? He could understand Micky’s dilemma even more now. Everything about him was testing his lover’s senses when his feelings were fighting to do otherwise. It was almost cruel.
After that he found his thoughts drifting and it wasn’t until he felt himself being lifted and moved that he realized he must have dozed off in the chair. With a tired sigh, Jae leaned against Micky and let his lover return him to the bed. He heard Micky apologize and knew he felt bad.
“Can we talk about that more later?” Jae replied between a few yawns as he reached over to set his sketchbook on the bedside table. “I wanna know more.”
Micky had the courtesy to be surprised for once and smiled, somehow knowing what Jae was talking about. “We can.”
“Fair enough.” He stole a kiss before sleep started to pull him down again. “Good night.”
“Sweet dreams.”

They weren’t
