12: in which no one can make up their damn mind

Junsu sighed in relief as he finally finished the coding on his programming assignment. He set his laptop on the floor as the music started over again and Yunho went through a set of moves as Boa watched. The two were practicing for a dance competition they’d decided to enter, but for the life of him, Junsu couldn’t figure out why the two had decided to go in on it together. Usually, Yunho would partner with Hyori—ah, right. He’d forgotten she’d already been cast in the play when people were signing up for the competition. Maybe Hyori had suggested Yunho ask Boa to be his partner. It seemed Micky had stolen the dancing queen who let the princess take the spotlight, but she was supervising the affair. Today anyway.

Boa’s frustration broke when she stepped away from Yunho and stood still for a moment and he moved away to get water. Junsu held up Boa’s water as she approached and took it with thanks.

“You should tell him,” Junsu murmured as she crouched before him.

She scoffed. “Like he’d respond.”

“He’s thickheaded, I’m sure he’d realize…” Junsu trailed off as she shook her head.

“He’s not ready, and it’s obvious,” she muttered angrily.

“Or you’re too scared.” Junsu pursed his lips when she stared at him. “You might lose him if you confess,” he speculated to see her glance away. “Boa…”

“Not yet,” she replied and put her bottle down before walking back to Yunho to try the move again. Junsu sighed and rubbed his face. He hadn’t had to confess to Jaejoong, or vice versa. The alcohol had done that for them. He wished Yunho could see how much Boa loved him. Maybe he did see it, and didn’t want to. Fool.

Junsu shook his head and flipped his phone open. He smiled when a picture of Jaejoong popped up to show he had a text from the young man. He clicked a button and read it to find that Jaejoong was at work.

—Some cougar just hit on me—

Junsu snorted and typed back, —Was she pretty?—

—I didn’t notice. I was too busy trying not to stare at the lipstick on her teeth—

Junsu’s shoulders trembled as he tried not to laugh out loud. —Sexy.—

—You have weird taste ;)—

—I danced with you, didn’t I?— Junsu typed back as Boa stole her towel from beside him and glanced at the screen.

“Is he cute?”

“What?” Junsu blurted out as he held the phone to his chest to keep her from reading it as she grinned.

“You were smirking. Figured you were flirting,” she replied and took a sip from her water. “Please tell me you’re not cyber-texting.”

Junsu gave her a deadpan glare. “Do I look 15?”

“Well?”

“If you hadn’t interrupted.” Junsu sniffed in mock annoyance as she laughed and walked back to Yunho.

“Can I try it with Hyori?” she asked him.

Junsu blinked as he shut his phone and glanced up. Yunho looked surprised as he stepped back and gestured for Hyori to take his place. The older girl gave Boa a curious look but did as she was asked and took the spot behind Boa. Together, they slowly went through the steps without music as Yunho took a spot next to Junsu.

“I’m not sure she can get it down before the competition,” he said softly.

“You’re not being easy on her,” Junsu commented as he watched the girls. Curious—Boa didn’t seem to have a problem with the timing of the move while she was partnered with Hyori.

“I’m a teacher, I’m not supposed to be easy on her,” Yunho grumbled. He was about to take a drink of water when Junsu’s phone buzzed to life and he fumbled with it, trying not to drop it and open it at the same time.

—I knew there was a reason I liked you—

Junsu’s heart jumped in his chest as he read it. He froze when he realized he had a stupid grin on his face and there was a big fat head on his shoulder reading the text.

“So when are you getting married?” Yunho asked before Junsu shoved him and scooted away.

“You’re not invited,” Junsu murmured as he typed back. —I am pretty likable—

“Dating yet?”

Junsu snapped the phone shut and stared at the floor. “I keep forgetting to ask him out.”

Yunho choked on his water as he laughed. “Ask him now.”

“I am not asking someone out in a text.” Junsu shot him a look of annoyance.

“You’re so stupid for each other, neither of you will ever remember,” Yunho muttered and rolled his eyes as the music started and they both looked up to watch the two girls go through the steps. The two moved together so well, Junsu had to wonder if Boa dancing with Hyori would be better than with Yunho. And then Hyori slipped behind Boa and they rolled their bodies together. The particular move that used to be Boa’s problem now had Junsu raising an eyebrow in interest. While he preferred males, he had to admit that the girls looked rather sexy together.

Junsu glanced over to do a double take at Yunho’s dropped jaw. Well now, if he could say anything about people being stupid for one another… He waved his hand in front of Yunho’s face to see the young man jerk back in surprise. The two girls ran through the steps once more as Yunho fiddled with his water bottle and Junsu received another text.

—Enough to like someone back?—

Junsu smiled. —Theoretically—

Yunho stood and walked back to Boa as Junsu glanced up to watch as the music started and they began to do the moves. He could have sworn Yunho didn’t look that serious about it when they were practicing before, but now his expression was different—intense. Despite this, Boa had no problem with any of the steps, hitting everything perfectly as Yunho’s body melded with hers to create one cohesive unit. Twice more they ran through the set as Junsu ignored them for Jaejoong.

—Tease—

Junsu snickered and typed back, —;D—

—:p—

—Don’t make me come over there and teach you how to use that tongue properly—

—The cougars would love that—

Junsu grinned. —I’ll bet—

—So would i—

Junsu glanced up at the team as they planned out their next set of moves and typed, —When are you off?—

—Now. Going to starbucks—

He slowly, and boredly gathered up his things, trying to seem like he was getting sick of watching them and had decided to leave. Unfortunately, that was when the two decided to call it quits and Yunho asked Junsu to wait for him to take a quick shower so they could leave together.

“I was gonna go to Starbucks…” Junsu trailed off as Yunho said it was a great idea and ran off to the shower. Great.

—Be there when Yunho is squeaky clean— Junsu sighed and slumped against the wall as Boa gathered her things.

“Don’t be so sad. Absence makes the heart grow fonder,” she said with a wink as Junsu felt his face get hot.

His phone buzzed and he chose to ignore her. —Did you get him dirty?—

Junsu laughed out loud this time before he replied, —You just want video of it—

—Damn right—

Boa rolled her eyes at him and said goodbye as she left for the night. Hyori followed soon after and Yunho arrived freshly showered as Junsu was about to send Jaejoong a really naughty text in reply to something that made him blush. He decided on an innuendo.

—Coming— Junsu snapped his phone shut and picked up his things to follow Yunho out as his phone buzzed.

—Hot. —

Junsu couldn’t help but burst out laughing at the one word response and pushed Yunho out the door as he lollygagged to annoy Junsu. Yunho dragged his feet all the way to the Starbucks and Junsu gave up when Yunho purposely stalled him at the door and just shoved him out of the way to make his way over to take the empty seat at Jaejoong’s table.

“Hi,” he said, out of breath.

“Hey,” Jaejoong smirked and went back to his drawing. “Eventful night?”

“Maybe,” Junsu flirted back. “You?”

Jaejoong glanced at his phone. “A bit.”

Across the room, Yunho gagged. “God, it’s like you can see the hearts popping up in the air all around them.

Micky snorted. “They’re so stupid for each other, it hurts. Are they going on a date yet?”

Yunho laughed. “Remember, they’re stupid for each other.”

“Right,” Micky replied.

“Wanna take bets on how long it takes?” Changmin asked as he wiped a table near them. “And you know you’re not supposed to solicit customers in the store,” he told Micky and nodded at the papers in his hand.

“But it’s for my plaaaaay,” Micky whined. “I’m just giving them to people I know …and total strangers…” he murmured the latter as he glanced at the ceiling. Changmin rolled his eyes and wandered away.

“Let me see,” Yunho held out his hand and took one to read it as Micky turned away.

“Ah, Kumi!” He stopped her as she was about to walk by. “I’ve got a play coming up on campus this weekend if you’re interested,” he suggested carefully as he held out a flyer.

“You’re in a play?” she asked as she took it.

“Hyori and I are the lead roles,” he replied as her eyebrows rose.

“Hm, maybe,” she said absently. “Thanks!” And with that she was out the door.

Micky let out a breath in surprise. “Best interaction I think I’ve ever had with her.”

“Yeah, you talked,” Yunho said obviously. “Now, if only you could talk to her.”

“I’m working on it!” Micky grumbled.

Now if only he could make up his damn mind. Did he like her, or not?
