Part1: Nobody Home
“Michan? Almost done packing?”
“Yep! I’ll be right there!” Mika replied and was about the close the box when she realized which picture was sitting on top. She picked it up and smiled at it affectionately. There were a lot of memories in that picture. She wasn’t sure if she should keep it, because it was a pretty private picture. As she ran her finger over the weaving silver frame, she wondered if she should leave it for them.
~***~
Mika stopped typing and sighed as she heard yelling in the other room. They were at it again. Her right eyebrow twitched as the yelling got louder. She wasn’t sure if she could handle this. Being an assistant to one of the most popular stars in Japan was great, until you got on his bad side, or heard someone else do it. Lately, tensions in the place had been running high. For weeks now, she would hear them yelling about something, and it was usually completely trivial. They argued like they were a married couple! She couldn’t figure out why they fought so much, but she knew she couldn’t help them.
She got up and peeked around her half open door to see Gackt snarl at his guitarist and point at the door.
“FINE! SEE IF I CARE!!” You roared at the singer and stomped right out of the place. Mika stared in shock. This was the first time one of them had ever left in the middle of a fight. They usually just split up into different areas of the spacious apartment and thought. She stared at the slammed door and wondered how long it would be before You actually came back.
“Ah, Michan…” Gackt said gently, a far cry from the voice he’d been using seconds before.
“Um, oh, I’m sorry.” She smiled a little and made to shut the door.
“No. Michan, it’s okay.” He mirrored a weary smile. “I’m sorry we interrupted you.”
“Is everything okay?” she asked quietly, hoping it wasn’t too bothersome to ask.
The singer sighed and looked at the door. “Yeah.” He looked down and then up at her with that same smile. “Would you like to help me make dinner?”
Mika smiled brighter and nodded. “I would be happy to.”
Gackt waved her out of her study and led her into the kitchen, rambling off what they were going to make as he got everything out to prepare it. Mika followed his instructions and ran about the kitchen helping him. After a while, the kitchen was warm and Gackt was smiling like he usually did. Her chest felt a little light when he smiled so happily. She watched as he chopped some vegetables and rattled off some random story, like usual, with a big smile on his face. She could understand why his fans melted over that smile, because she had been, and still was a fan.
The two didn’t even know that the front door had opened and closed until they turned to see You standing in the middle of the kitchen, soaked from head to toe. They stared at him in shock for a moment, before the guitarist interrupted them.
“I’m sorry,” he blurted out, his face bright red, but still angry. Obviously the downpour he’d been caught in hadn’t helped to brighten his mood. Neither of the other two had a chance to reply to his apology before he plodded his way out of the kitchen and to the bathroom, where he slammed the door—yet again—and they could hear his wet clothing hitting the tiled floor. Mika stared at the bathroom door, frozen in place before she heard Gackt chopping vegetables again.
“Shouldn’t you go talk to him?” she asked, a bit scared.
Gackt shook his head. “He wouldn’t listen to me if I tried right now.” He picked up the vegetables he chopped and dropped them into a pan. “Just let him cool down.”
Mika nodded and went back to helping him silently. Deep down, she still felt that Gackt should go and talk to You, but she didn’t want to meddle with something that wasn’t her business.
~***~
The next day, You was still acting like a jerk. Mika didn’t say it. Gackt didn’t say it. It was plainly obvious though. You ignored Gackt and wouldn’t stay in the same room with him. His fuming was starting to get to Mika. She couldn’t handle his childish behavior. She wanted to smack him, sit him and Gackt down and make them talk, but it wasn’t her problem. She did get a little amusement out of the situation.
At one point, she was on the computer in the study, typing up a report when Gackt kept running around, trying to find You. As soon as he found You, the next time he went looking, You would be in a completely different spot. She had to hand it to the guitarist. He kept Gackt on his toes, and at his wits end. Mika felt bad when she nearly giggled as Gackt snapped at You, who had moved for the fifth time and was ignoring the singer.
Later in the evening, Mika was sitting in the front room, reading a manga when Gackt flopped down on the couch. She glanced up to see that he looked exhausted. Apparently, You had done a good job of wearing him out.
“Are you okay?” she asked with a smile.
Gackt sighed loudly. “I really shouldn’t have fought with him. He’s so hard to deal with when he’s mad at me.”
“You should talk to him.” Mika closed her manga and sat up, watching as the singer stretched and did the same.
“He won’t listen to me anyway,” Gackt muttered and played with his rings.
“Maybe you’re saying the wrong things,” she suggested, to which Gackt looked away broodingly and went silent. Mika took the move as a sign to keep reading. The singer was silent for a long while as Mika read the rest of her manga. Once in a while she glanced up to see him deep in thought, as if he were composing a song in his head. His eyes would stare at something in the room and go completely unfocused as the thoughts bombarded inside of his head. His body wouldn’t move an inch as this happened. It reminded her of a cat, she thought at one point.
Just as she was setting down her manga, the door opened and You walked in. He was going to walk straight through the room and stopped dead as he glanced over at Gackt. She watched as the two of them caught each other’s eyes and exchanged something private. For a moment, all they did was stare blankly—she wondered if You was still mad, or if it was a battle of not showing how they felt. It didn’t take long for Gackt’s eyes to soften. Mika was surprised by his show of emotions, and apparently so was You, as his eyes looked shocked for a moment before they softened as well. They looked as if they wanted to say something, but they never did. Gackt’s light blue eyes just gazed up at You, in a longing to say something, but not knowing exactly what; and You watched the singer, obviously longing to hear something, but would hear nothing.
Mika felt a little disappointed as You gave Gackt a sad look and walked out of the room. They weren’t ready to talk. Maybe tomorrow would change that. She hoped so anyway.

Mika stretched with her hands above her head as she rode the elevator up to the apartment. It was a treat to finally get out and away from the men for once and shop all by herself. She grinned down at the bags at her feet and picked them up as she came to her floor. She was proud of herself for getting so many bargains in one day. She would have to brag about it to her friends later.
As she opened the door to the apartment, Mika blinked and stepped into the darkness, letting her eyes adjust before closing the door behind herself. It was odd. She’d expected Gackt to be home, and his bodyguards around somewhere, but the apartment was empty. It even had a very odd, very empty feeling to it. She set her bags down and took off her coat, hung it up and was about to pick up her bags again when she heard something. A sniffle? Mika frowned and looked around; stopping in surprise when she noticed a familiar outline crouched next to the glass doors of the balcony.
She moved quietly over to him and touched his shoulder. “Gacchan?”
He jumped and looked up at her, the silver light of the moon illuminating his two tear streaked cheeks and pale skin. Mika froze at the fearful look in his eyes. What could have happened to have struck the strongest man she knew so hard?
“What is it?” She asked quietly, hoping the shake in her voice couldn’t be heard as she wiped his tears from his cheeks. He didn’t move an inch. His trust in her was surprising. Unfortunately, he just looked away, more tears running down his cheeks. Mika was at a loss. She didn’t know what to do. “Come on.” She gently tugged on the singer’s arm. “Let’s go sit on the couch. The floor here is cold.” Her quiet urging managed to get Gackt up off of the floor and over to the couch where he sat with his head in his hands, his phone clutched in one of them. She itched to hug him, hold him and tell him that everything would be okay, even if she didn’t know what was wrong.
Mika got up and went into the kitchen, making him a cup of tea to warm him, and maybe get him to talk. The singer looked taken aback when he saw the cup being held out to him. He gave her a grateful look and took it, sipping at it quietly as she sat on the couch next to him. Mika wasn’t about to give up. She rubbed his back gently as his tears seemed to subside. As she reached for a box of tissues from a side table, his tears came back in full force and she bit her lip, offering the box to him. Gackt took a few and blew his already red nose and wiped at his bloodshot eyes.
“Gacchan…” she trailed off as he looked up at her again, the fear in his eyes hitting her again. It scared her.
“He got into an accident.”
He didn’t have to say any more than that. Mika knew who he meant and why he’d been crying. It was no wonder he wouldn’t let go of his phone. She carefully pried the cell phone from Gackt’s grip and pulled him into a hug, holding him tightly as he gripped her shoulders. She could tell he was trying not to cry, but she couldn’t hold back. Mika knew how much he meant to Gackt, and he was a friend of hers as well. Gackt had told her that they were soulmates, and that he wouldn’t be able to go on if he wasn’t with him. She hoped that he was alright.
They sat there for what seemed for hours. Mika rubbed Gackt’s back gently as his fingers clung to her sleeves, the silence thick around them.
“Nobody was home.” His voice sounded like someone had died.
“Hm?” Her hands stopped at his abrupt speech.
“I sent the bodyguards home, because I wanted to be alone. I thought he would be here. There was nobody home.”
“You wanted to be alone with him?” She asked, rubbing his back again.
Gackt nodded. “I wanted to try to say the right thing this time, but he wasn’t here. And then I got a call…”
Mika nodded silently. She couldn’t possibly imagine what must have run through his mind at that moment.
“They said he’d been in an accident. I… I didn’t know what to do, so I tried to go but they stopped me.”
“Your bodyguards?”
“They said people would wonder what I was rushing to a hospital for. They went there instead of me. They said they’d call if they found out anything.”
She felt him shift and they both looked down at the phone. It didn’t make a sound.
The doorbell went off, causing the two to jump in alarm. Mika let go of the singer and put her hand on her chest to calm herself as she went to answer the door. As she pulled open the door, she knew who stood there, just by the build of the shadow. She sighed in complete relief as she saw You standing outside the door and moved closer to see if he was okay. He had a cut on one eyebrow and his lower lip. His right arm was in a sling, but not broken—it looked to be sprained. His pants were also torn and it looked like his right leg had been treated for lacerations. You looked like he’d been pushed down a hill by some bullies. The thought almost made her smile.
“Did you hurt yourself badly?” She asked, to which he replied with a shake of his head. With an impulse, Mika gave him a quick hug and felt him hug her back. She wanted to make sure he was okay before she moved aside to watch him limp through the door. He looked up from taking off his shoes to see Gackt on the couch and limped over to sit beside him. The two hugged tightly and Mika turned to the two bodyguards outside the door. “What happened?” she asked quietly.
“Guy ran a red light and totaled his bike.” One bodyguard shook his head. “He’s lucky; very lucky to not have died.”
“Thank you,” Mika smiled and closed the door, turning back to the men on the couch. Gackt was holding You’s left arm, looking at his wrist curiously.
“Everyone who witnessed it thought I should have been dead, with how fast the car was going, and how he hit me,” You told the singer.
“What is it?” Mika asked as she approached.
“His bracelet is gone.” Gackt touched his wrist lightly as Mika noticed that the left side of You’s body didn’t seem to have any damage at all. She shivered involuntarily and wondered if the beaded bracelet had saved his life.
“I asked the cops and paramedics. They couldn’t find it anywhere.” You shook his head.
“Do you want some tea? Or some noodles?” She asked the guitarist.
“Tea would be really nice.” He smiled a little and she nodded, hurrying off to the kitchen. She busied herself in the other room to give the men some privacy, but she could hear their low voices clearly.
“I thought I almost lost you,” Gackt murmured.
“I thought I was going to die…”
Mika peeked around the corner to see the two hug each other tightly.
“I was hoping to spend the night alone with you, so that we could talk.” Gackt rested his cheek on the guitarist’s shoulder and squeezed him.
“I’m sorry,” You replied with a sigh.
“I’m glad you’re okay. I don’t know if I’d be able to go on without you,” the singer admitted.
“I know,” the violinist nuzzled Gackt’s hair with his cheek as the singer’s eyes closed. Mika went back to making the tea when she realized they weren’t going to speak. She nibbled on her bottom lip as her hands gripped the counter, trying not to cry. With a swallow, she regained her composure and picked up You’s cup and brought it out the front room for him. He thanked her politely as the two men broke from their hug and You sipped at his tea.
“I’ll be on the computer if you need me,” she told them and received nods from both of them before retreating there. She spent a few hours thinking about You’s accident and chatting with her friends and didn’t realize it had gotten so late until she glanced at the clock in the corner of the computer screen. She wished she could have told her friends about the scare, but she didn’t want to talk about anything that maybe her employer didn’t want the public to know about.
With a quick goodbye to her friends, Mika switched off the computer and glanced into the front room as she entered the hall. The men had retired for the night she figured as she saw the front room dark. She made her way down the hall quietly and stopped when she heard someone whisper. Mika glanced into Gackt’s room and saw the singer laying atop the guitarist. They were covered from the waist down by a sheet, but she noted that neither of them had shirts on. She watched as the two smiled at one another and leaned closer. Mika smiled and walked away before she could see any more. This was not for her to see, but for their memories only. Still, she wondered if Gackt had finally found the right thing to say.
Mika stopped at her bedroom door and thought back on the smiles they gave one another and the look in their eyes. She didn’t have to wonder, she knew.
