Summary: Micky followed along, not because he wanted to. Sure, he liked being around Jae, but he went because, really, he hadn’t anything better or more interesting to do. And Jae definitely made things interesting.
Disclaimer: Characters not mine, never were, but it's just fiction. The base story, however, is mine. Shoo.

B:

“Good pranks take time and planning,” Jae had told him, and despite their expressed urges to pull it off as quickly as possible, they really couldn’t with all the things they had going on. Micky had been trying to come up with ideas, but he often shot them down before offering them to Jae. They just weren’t good enough. He wanted Mio to suffer the anger he’d had.

Micky braved the stairs of one of the English buildings to get to the third floor for his next class, dodging students who were leaving. It didn’t start another fifteen minutes, but it wouldn’t kill him to be early for once.

“I was impressed by the writing on your last essay,” Micky overheard the professor say as he approached the room.

“Thank you.”

Micky froze just outside the door when he heard Jae’s voice.

“Have you thought about what I proposed to you the last time we spoke?” she asked and Micky heard a bit of suggestiveness to her voice as he stood against the wall, listening silently.

There was the sound of someone grabbing a paper loudly before Jae replied, “I already told you that I’m not interested.”

“Are you sure? This might help your grades…”

“I don’t need your help to keep my 4.0,” Jae growled, his voice wavering as he made his way to the door.

“But I might need yours,” she said, making Jae stop in his tracks, just inside the door.

Micky’s heart pounded as he realized just what he was hearing—she was propositioning him. Much to his surprise, Jae chose not to answer and just stormed out, not even noticing Micky standing by the door as he took the stairs down two at a time.

For a while, Micky just stood there trying to take in what he’d just heard. It didn’t take long for him to get angry about it. He’d thought his English professor was a good teacher and was annoyed at her willingness to sink to such a level. He stood there pretending to check his phone, waiting as students slowly trickled past him into class. Finally, he decided to go in and sat in the far back corner, as usual. This time, instead of just taking notes, he actually watched his professor. He’d never noticed it before, but she clearly favored a few particular guys in his class. It was… disappointing.

Once class was over, Micky was out of his seat and the door before she could call out to make sure that homework was finished for the next class. He had to find Jae. Screw feeling overprotective, this was just wrong. He texted asking where Jae was and got a picture in reply. He frowned at the screen of his phone as he turned it, trying to figure out where this was. It hit him and he turned around, running off toward the quad. Feeling a bit silly, Micky slowed down as he walked across the quad and made his way to a small courtyard to the north, secluded by a group of trees and one of the Science buildings. Jae was behind one of the trees, smoking silently.

“To what do I owe this sudden urge to find me?” Jae asked with a grin.

“I didn’t know you had English right before me.”

Jae froze, cigarette just before his lips. He took one last drag off of it before throwing it on the ground to step on it. “What did you hear?”

“All of it.”

The sunlight danced down through the trees, as Micky watched Jae. With such a peculiarly beautiful day, it was odd to see such a sour look on Jae’s face with the scenery around them.

“I wanted to punch her.”

“I wish you had.”

Jae chuckled as his hand went to his shirt—unbutton, button, unbutton, button. “I probably should’ve expected this. She was so nice to me at the beginning of the semester and I really liked her teaching. God forbid you just try to be a good student, nooooo. The bitch has to try to get me to sleep with her and threaten me with bad grades if I don’t.”

Micky reached out to catch the hand at his neck to stop his rambling. Jae blinked in surprise as he realized his nervous habit. Their eyes met and Micky let go as he looked away, uneasy. Why had he done that? Jae let his hand drop awkwardly as the silence stretched between them.

“You shouldn’t have to put up with that,” he said finally.

Jae just nodded silently, and Micky didn’t know what else to do or say. He’d never expected to be in this position.

“I—I wanna know,” Jae blurted out.

“What?”

“I wanna what she’s heard about me. If it’s anything worse than what you’ve heard or if she assumed herself,” he said, the frown on his brow deepening. “Come on.” He grabbed Micky’s arm and dragged him away as he marched. Micky had no choice but to follow.

They trolled around the English building their class was in, but didn’t see any sign of her, nor could they hear her teaching through any of the closed doors. They even checked in the lounge area of the building and nearly got caught trying to sneak in.

“Do you think we should ask someone?” Micky asked as they flopped down on a bench outside.

“No, then that person might tell her and she might think that I want to change my mind,” Jae replied as he rested his face in his hands. “What should I do if she asks again?”

“Asks you to take extra tutoring or to stay after class?”

“Both.”

Micky pondered. “Well, if she asks you to stay after class, get your phone ready and record the conversation.”

“I wish I’d thought of that today. I was hoping she’d apologize. I just wanted to get out of there.”

“Any other guy would feel flattered.”

“Any other guy in my class doesn’t have my grades and probably isn’t gay,” he muttered.

The utterance was almost lost by Micky as he looked up. “There she is!” he hissed as Jae’s head snapped up. They grabbed their bags and went tearing after her. She was carrying some fast food into the building they’d just been in and headed toward the staff area.

“Shit, we won’t get in there,” Jae said as she managed to get the door open with full arms.

“Let’s check the window,” Micky suggested and pulled him out. Luck was with them as they found the window open and her sitting inside. They sat under the window as they pulled out books, trying to look like they just happened to be reading.

“This looks so horrible,” Jae whispered with a grin.

“Sssh,” Micky put a finger to his lips as someone walked into the room and greeted their professor.

“What’s the matter?” another woman asked.

“Oh, nothing.”

“You didn’t… did you?”

“I did.”

“Oh god, I can’t believe you tried to get that Jaejoong kid. What happened?”

“He refused.”

The other woman laughed as they heard a chair scraping. “I told you he’d say no. He has no reason to try to get better grades.”

“Yeah, he’s a smart kid.”

“Why did you do it?”

Their professor laughed. “Well, he’s cute! And the girls are always saying how he flirts and goes out to parties. I thought he might like to have some fun and ensure his grades stay where they are.”

“He has much more pride than you expected.”

“Truly.” She sighed. “I have to admit, he’s not really what anyone expects.”

“He’s not just a pretty face,” the other woman agreed.

“You’re not kidding.”

The two chuckled for a moment before switching the subject to something completely different and Micky had to drag Jae to get him to move. He seemed a little disturbed by the revelation.

His thoughtful silence lasted until they were past the quad. “I thought she might actually be serious.”

“It’s a good thing she wasn’t.” Micky stopped and caught his arm. “What’s bothering you?”

“I don’t really know. I’m gonna go think about it,” he said before turning to Micky and pulling him into a hug. “Thanks for coming to find me.”

“Hey, we’re friends,” Micky said as he pulled back. “You can text me if you need anything.”

“Thanks,” Jae said with a grateful smile before splitting off to wander away.

Micky didn’t want to let him go, but turned away to head back to the dorm. He was only a call away. He knew if either of them needed anything, they could find one another.

Yunho came to find Micky as he was sitting down for lunch a few days later and thanked him for being there for Jae when he couldn’t. Micky just waved it off as he tried to squelch his feelings again. He almost hated himself for being the one at Jae’s side when it should have been Yunho, but no one should have to go through that kind of thing alone.

He didn’t have much time with Jae after that. They all had tests right before classes went on break for Thanksgiving and Micky found himself at home, watching TV with his brother, barely paying attention as his mind wandered.

“Are we going shopping tomorrow?” Yoohwan, his brother, asked.

“Dunno,” Micky answered as his phone buzzed and he picked it up.

[R WE GOIN SHOPPIN TMRW?]

Micky’s hand went to his face as he snickered hysterically. Only Junsu.

“What did he say?” Yoohwan asked, knowing exactly who it was.

Micky just shook his head and replied, [When?]

[AS ERLY AS POSIBLE SO I CN GET A NEW FLATPANL]

Junsu’s texts hurt his brain almost as much as being with him. He wondered how Junsu had bypassed spell check, but he figured capslock did that. [I refuse to get up before 10]

[FINE. U TELL MOM ABT UR CLOTHS?]

Micky sighed. “I do need to get new clothing,” he told his brother as he glanced down at the shirt he wore, once light blue was now bright orange.

“Mom was pretty pissed about that, even if it wasn’t your fault.”

Micky could hear her voice echoing in his head, saying how he hadn’t gotten into any trouble his first year and she was worried he’d made friends with the wrong people. He’d had to explain the entire thing to her, minus Jae and Keita’s relationship and she finally realized it was a misunderstanding. Sort of. At least she’d agreed to give him money for more clothing. Unfortunately, it cut into his Christmas presents (which were probably going to be clothes and money anyway), but he could live with that and the gift card Mio had given him. Orange, however, he looked terrible in.

True to his word, Micky refused to get up before 10am. So Junsu arrived at his house at 10 on the dot and began to pound on his bedroom door.

“ GEEEEET UUUUP!” he squealed through the door and Micky’s sleep hazed mind thought his phone might be translating Junsu’s texts into verbal conversations. He fumbled with his phone for a moment before he got his glasses on to realize he was reading a text from Jae.

[Going shopping today? :)]

Micky let his face fall into the pillow as Junsu burst through the door.

“Time to go!” Junsu bounced on the end of his bed and Micky chucked a pillow at him, which connected perfectly despite his state and knocked Junsu off the bed.

Changmin and Yoohwan laughed from the doorway as Junsu threw the pillow back only to see Micky catch it and set it down.

“You deserved that,” Micky said as he pointed at his friend on the floor, who responded by sticking his tongue out. He ignored it and replied to Jae, [Junsu has monopolized my time for that very reason, I believe]

“Come on! All the good stuff will be gone!” Junsu whined.

“Shopping starts at 4am, of course all the good stuff is gone,” Yoohwan replied.

“We ordered some stuff online to be picked up in the store,” Changmin told him around the sucker in his mouth.

“You can do that?” Micky asked as he glanced at his buzzing phone. [It’s a madhouse in my city. Watch out for idiot drivers :/]

“Yeah, I think Junsu is just excited to have some help getting his TV,” Changmin informed them, and suddenly Micky knew why they’d been roped in.

“Can I at least shower?” he asked as he got out of bed.

“FINE.” Junsu threw up his hands.

“I’ll be thinking of you the whole time,” Micky told him with a wink.

Junsu snorted. “You’re such a terrible liar. I know you’ll be thinking of that guy whose name also starts with a J.”

Micky whipped another pillow at him before stomping off to the bathroom. Little bastard.

“You know you deserved that, right?” Yoohwan asked.

“Stop taking after your brother so much!”

Jae had been right about the drivers. Most of them had gone batshit in proportion to how much they might be saving on their soon to be purchases. Luckily, they hadn’t gotten sideswiped on their way to the mall and were now searching for a parking spot.

“I don’t even care if it’s close, just find one,” Changmin muttered.

“Can we park on the median? You’re in a 4x4,” Junsu suggested.

“I’m not sure they like it when you do that,” Yoohwan said as he spotted someone pulling out and turned his blinker on. “Thank god,” he muttered as the person left quickly and they snuck into the spot before a little hatchback could get close enough to steal it.

“Okay,” Junsu said as they got out and headed toward the door. “Where is everyone going?”

“I just need clothing,” Micky said with a shrug.

“I’m just the driver,” Yoohwan said.

“I came for the food,” Changmin told them as they entered and he went straight for the pretzel stand as the rest just rolled their eyes. As Changmin ate, the four of them agreed to split up—Changmin would go with Micky to help him pick out new clothing, and Yoohwan would go with Junsu to measure his TV to see if it would fit in the back of the SUV.

As they walked, Micky was glad for a little peace, in the middle of the ridiculously busy mall. His phone buzzed.

[Are you getting clothes? :)]

Micky smiled at his phone and replied, [Yeah, hoping for a sale]

[Good luck getting a dressing room >:|]

“How is he?”

Micky paused for a moment. “How did you know?”

“You get a big, dumb grin on your face.”

Great. Now it was getting obvious. His phone buzzed again. [Send me pics so I can judge your fashion sense >:|] He snorted and showed Changmin.

“Aw, he’s looking out for you! That’s sweet!”

Micky elbowed him and got up to head toward the store. Changmin chased after him and steered him into another store with more of the kind of clothing Jae wore. “But I can’t afford most of this stuff!” he hissed.

“But Jae will like it if you try. And this is the place Mio got the gift card for.” Changmin grinned. “Keita made her.”

Micky glared at him. “I thought it was all about what was on the inside.”

“You look terrible in baggy jeans. I’m glad they all got ruined.”

“Shit, fine. I’ll get jeans here,” Micky growled and headed toward the display of jeans. “I hope he doesn’t listen to this music too.”

“I can’t imagine Jae would be into this crap,” Changmin answered.

“Oh my god, I love this song!” some girl exclaimed and started to sing along to the ridiculously banal lyrics as Micky tried to turn around. Changmin caught him and led him to the table that had the sign ‘CLEARANCE!!’ on it. Ignoring the terrible song (and singing), the two sifted through the pile of clothing (which was a disaster to put it nicely) and found a few pairs of jeans that were Micky’s size. They also found a few nice, light sweaters and a couple of decent t-shirts. One of the girls who worked there offered them a basket and Micky made Changmin carry it since he was so jazzed to help him buy clothing.

They found a few more pairs of jeans and some nice button up shirts before heading toward the dressing rooms to find there was a lull and got in right away. Micky quickly stripped and put on a pair of the pants that actually hugged his legs. These weren’t so bad. They made him look ridiculously skinny though. He pulled on a tank top before putting on one of the fitted button up shirts, leaving it unbuttoned. Not bad at all. He pulled his phone out of his pants from the floor and took a picture, the shutter sound echoing in the room before he sent it to Jae.

“I hope you were in your underwear for that picture,” Changmin said from outside.

“I don’t really want to get kicked out of the store, thanks,” Micky replied as he came out to show Changmin his choice.

“Damn.” His eyebrows had risen. “The things the right size will do for you.”

“Flirt,” Micky replied monotone as he looked in the mirror. The phone buzzed in his hand and he turned it on. [Approved :D Though I guess we can’t do much for your ass :/]

“He has a point.”

Micky shoved Changmin’s head away and went back in the room to switch pants. He was about to zip them up when Changmin knocked on the door. “What?” he said as he opened it to have Changmin slip in and shut the door quickly.

“There’s a cute girl out there from my programming class,” he whispered.

Micky just stared at him. “Get out.”

“Mickyyy!”

This was ridiculous. He grabbed Changmin and shoved him out the door before shutting it again.

There was a bit of scuffling before he heard Changmin say lamely, “Oh, sorry. Hi.”

“Hi, Changmin,” a girl said awkwardly. “Excuse me.” He heard her giggle as she moved past to take the room two down.

“I HATE YOU,” Changmin hissed through the door as Micky grinned to himself, taking another picture.

[You look evil. To what do I owe this pleasure? >:D] Jae replied.

[An embarrassed Changmin is an amusing Changmin]

[What did you do? >:D]

Micky smirked and changed before replying [Threw him into a cute girl from his programming class]

[Did he catch cooties? D:]

[That would be a terrible diagnosis, but I think I only bruised his pride] Micky took a few more pictures, which were approved before he finally came out of the room to find Changmin sitting on the chairs staring at the wall. Except when the girl came out of her dressing room to model in front of the mirrors. He glanced over and then tried very hard to ignore her before she went back in.

“I think she likes you,” Micky said as Changmin got up and punched his arm.

“Shut up!”

Micky snickered as he took his load of clothing over to the counter and paid much less than he’d expected to, especially with the gift card. When he turned, Changmin was walking up to him, his face flaming red. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

Micky tiled his head, frowning. “Then why are you blushing?”

Changmin smiled. “She gave me her number.”

Micky laughed and put an arm around Changmin, ruffling his hair as he did. “With my leftover money, I will buy you lunch,” he said as his phone buzzed and be pulled it out.

“Really?”

[Tell him You’re Welcome ;)]

Micky smiled to himself and decided to stay quiet. “Yeah. Call Junsu and tell him and my brother to meet up with us.”

[You didn’t have to do that] he finally replied as Changmin called.

[Some of us like to see other people happy. Speaking of, liking your new clothes?]

[Yeah, I do actually]

[Good, can’t wait to see you in them :D]

Micky grinned like an idiot as he and Changmin made their way down the mall. He knew he was walking right into a disaster, but it was a beautiful disaster.
