Notes: takes place during the shoot for the A Week Holiday photobook
When Changmin complains he’s hungry, after he returns from his solo shoot, the staff starts setting up for food. But he doesn’t want their food. Okay, he does want barbeque, but he wants Jaejoong to cook it. He stares longingly at the little grill, then turns puppy-dog eyes at Jaejoong, trying to get his attention by whining just loud enough to annoy him.
Jaejoong turns a glare at Changmin who doesn’t even flinch. It doesn’t help that Mangdoongi is in Changmin’s arms, giving him the same eyes. He gives up and lets out a long suffering sigh. “Fiiiiiiiine,” he says as he shifts his weight to push out of the chair at the small folding table.
“We aren’t done with our chess game!” Yoochun whines.
Jaejoong grins and moves a piece. “Take your time,” he replies as Yoochun frowns at the board and starts chewing on his lip. “So what are you hungry for?” he asks Changmin as they walk away from Yoochun, who is second guessing every move he can think of, moving his hand back and forth as he tries to decide on which piece to move.
Changmin starts in on burgers and the like and the staff decides upon leaving to get the entire group and staff food. One of their managers decides to stay as the rest leave, but Changmin knows there’s a cooler with some barbeque ingredients the staff had planned to make, so he and Jaejoong dig through it to find a multitude of things they could cook.
“Do you have to carry her around everywhere?” Jaejoong eyes Mangdoongi as she sniffs the cooler from Changmin’s arm.
Changmin gives him a disconcerted look. “She might get stepped on.”
“Not with her bark. Even Xiahki is scared of her,” Jaejoong teases. “Are you sure you aren’t gay? We could get you one of those big Louis Vuitton purses to put her in—” he breaks off as Changmin shoves him and tells him to shut up. “Do you want food or not?”
“Yes.” A pout emerges. With a sigh, he sets Mangdoongi down and she loyally sits next to him.
“See? She’s perfectly safe. I promise Vick won’t eat her.”
Changmin snorts. “He’s too lazy to eat anything that he’d have to chase.”
“Do we only have the grill to use?” Jaejoong asks with a pout, ignoring the jibe. “If we had a wok or something, I could make a lot of things…” He glances around, looking for anything to use besides the few paper plates and spatulas they know are on the table.
“Here are some forks and tin foil,” Changmin tells him as he finds them in a bag nearby.
“We could make some sloppy joes!” Yoochun suggests as he approaches. “Finished my move.”
Jaejoong frowns. “What is a sloppy joe?” He listens intently as Yoochun explains how they’re made and glances down to point out that they have most of the ingredients. He absently pets Harang as the dog sits next to him, obviously hoping they’ll feed him too.
“How would we make them though?” Yoochun muses aloud as he leans over Jaejoong to look into the cooler.
“We could use the tin foil!” Changmin blurts out as they give him curious looks. “We could sculpt the tin foil into like a bowl, or a box and it could hold what we need to cook.”
“That just might work,” Jaejoong replies in interest as Changmin rips out a sheet and begins to form the little box. He starts to giggle when Changmin makes faces and swears at the tin foil. Disinterested by the task, their manager walks away and naps on the folding chair as Junsu and Yunho approach to ask what they’re doing. Hearing about their tin foil box, the two smile and nod before they slip away toward the water with the fishing poles.
Yoochun complains that the box isn’t big enough and Changmin tells him to shove it as Jaejoong insists he can work with it. Frustrated and hungry, Changmin crumples the box up and throws it before grabbing the cooler and Jaejoong to drag them over to the grill. Come hell or high water, he is going to get food.
After getting paper and wood, the three manage to light a fire in the grill, but not before they have to stop Yoochun from pouring gas onto the fire once it’s already started. Jaejoong orders him back to the chess table as he readies the hamburger meat to go on the grill. Before starting cooking, Jaejoong sneaks over to the chess board to move another piece as Yoochun squawks indignantly at the quick move and frowns at the board as Jaejoong returns to place the meat on the grill.
Changmin watches Jaejoong cook and finally, with a glare, Jaejoong sends him to find Yunho and Junsu to ask if they want anything as well, since he’s cooking anyway. Now bored, he leaves the meat to cook and returns to the table as Yoochun finally makes a move on the board. Happy that he has to think about the next move, Jaejoong takes his time before moving his own piece and is surprised when Yoochun immediately moves one of his own.
“Did you move anything while I was gone?” he asks suspiciously.
“No, just doing like you told me and thinking five steps ahead,” he replies with a grin.
Leave it to Yoochun to make him competitive when he’s supposed to be watching their meal. He shrugs and takes a moment to assess the situation on the board before plotting out his own moves. After making a move of his own and leaving Yoochun to ponder, Jaejoong checks on their meal and sees the dogs they’ve brought along are sitting nearby, hoping for scraps. Jaejoong shakes his head with a grin and flips the burgers. He’s adding barbeque sauce (per Changmin’s request) as Yoochun calls out it’s his turn. Annoyed at Yoochun’s sudden grasp for chess, he returns to the table to yet again have to contemplate his move.
It’s around this time that Changmin returns with Yunho to watch the two battle it out over chess. Jaejoong is repeatedly annoyed by Yoochun’s progress and scrambles to find a move as the other two heckle him. It’s not until both have lost most of their pieces that Harang appears at Micky’s side, squeezing his way past Yunho’s leg. His wet nose on Yoochun’s arm makes his master grumble and wipe it before petting him. He goes back to the game, but Harang doesn’t give up easily.
He barks and everyone looks at him, so he whines and looks away. Confused, the four look at one another and then back to the dog who barks yet again, seemingly frustrated at their lack of understanding.
“He thinks you’re cheating,” Jaejoong translates.
Ignoring him, Yoochun turns to Harang. “What is it boy? Junsu fell down the well and he’s trapped?”
Changmin bursts out laughing as Yoochun grins and the other two stare at them in bewilderment. “You know? Like in Lassie? When Timmy is always…” The youngest trails off and waves a hand. “Nevermind.”
“Oi!” Yoochun blurts out as Harang takes a sleeve in his teeth and tugs. Harang wins the tug of war (not that it’s really an option for Yoochun) and they’re halfway to the grill when Jaejoong realizes he needs to check their food and they arrive to find half of the burgers missing.
“You stole the burgers!” Jaejoong points at Yunho and Changmin as they scoff indignantly.
“I would NEVER!” Yunho replies as Changmin calls Jaejoong something very unsavory and Yunho gives him a look of dissatisfaction. “We were at the water with Junsu!” Yunho insists.
“Look at the fish I caught!” Junsu chirps as he runs up and holds his phone out to show them a picture.
“Well now I can’t accuse him!” Jaejoong throws his arms up.
“Of what?” Junsu asks, deflating immediately.
“All my hard work,” Jaejoong grumbles.
“You barely worked!” Changmin replies with a roll of his eyes.
“That’s a very nice fish Junsu,” Yunho comments as Junsu grins happily and Yoochun agrees.
“Who cares about his fish? It’s just a picture!” Changmin gestures at the phone unhappily. “We can’t eat a picture! Why didn’t you just bring the fish over here?”
“Because I think its catch and relea—”
“Were you really catching a fish or did you find that on the internet?! You stole the burgers didn’t you?” Jaejoong points a finger in his face and Junsu starts to argue back, “Of course I did you nitwit! The cliff is in the background!”
The five all begin to yell at the same time and go silent when Harang barks again. They stop to stare at the dog as he looks away and they all turn their gaze in the same direction as Jaejoong hollers angrily.
Xiahki is sitting off by himself, content, face covered in barbeque sauce. Junsu stalks over to Xiahki to scold him, but the dog only gets up and starts to jump on his master, happy for the attention. Changmin and Yunho are trying not to snicker as Yoochun facepalms and Jaejoong complains about having to make more food. When Taepoon appears to gladly lick Xiahki clean, Yunho and Changmin lose it as Jaejoong gives up.
The staff returns with the catered food just in time to save the day and the boys are relieved to have some real food. Everyone chows down as they watch Yoochun and Jaejoong sit down to finish their chess game. The three start whispering bets at one another and Jaejoong glares to shut them up as he takes a huge bite of his fettuccini.
He stares at the board in annoyance when Harang comes up and bumps the table. Yoochun scolds his dog who glances at Yoochun before turning to lay his head on the table next to Jaejoong’s food. With a glance to Harang, Jaejoong looks back at the board as he wonders if he needs to finish eating so he’ll have more brain power. Harang begins to sniff the board and Jaejoong complains as his nose begins to move pieces, but stops mid-sentence as the piece moves and it hits him.
“CHECKMATE!” he yells out and pumps a fist into the air.
“BULL! THAT’S CHEATING! HE MOVED THE PIECE!” Yoochun snarls before looking at his dog. “And to think I trusted you!” he hisses as the other three dissolve into laughter.
Harang barks as Jaejoong grins triumphantly and turns to look at Vick lying in the shade of the camper. “Stay,” he commands and Vick does just that as Jaejoong he turns back to Yoochun, smug. “Well, at least my dog listens.”
