18: in which honesty is probably the best policy
—The door is open—
Junsu read the text he’d received when he’d left as he parked in the lot for Jaejoong’s apartment complex. He guessed that meant he could just walk on in, right? He didn’t have any work, and without anything else to do on an idle Sunday besides a little bit of homework he had left, Junsu decided wasting time with Jaejoong—read: doing anything with Jaejoong—was a lot more fun.
Once his car was locked, Junsu trudged up the stairs and up to the door before he turned the knob and stepped in. The words just dropped right out of his mouth at what met his eyes. Jaejoong was laying on the couch, Micky on all fours atop him as they stared at him in horror. He blinked a few times and it took him a moment to realize they both had script pages in their hands. A sigh of relief escaped him as Jaejoong panicked.
“This isn’t what you think!” he blurted out as he tried to move, but as Micky was frozen in fear, the two lost their balance and tumbled off the couch, Jaejoong landing hard atop his roommate. “Ow! Oh shit, sorry! You okay?”
Micky groaned. “Get off my balls… oh god…” he whimpered as Jaejoong scrambled off to watch Micky curl up in pain. Junsu winced as he sympathized, knowing what that felt like.
Jaejoong whispered an apology to Micky who waved him off, so he came straight over to the doorway. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you’d be here so soon, and then he asked me to help him with a scene for a play he was thinking about trying out for because one of the drama directors said it would be the next one, so I read the script and we used the couch for the position and—”
He stopped when Junsu put a finger to his lips to quiet him, and then kiss him. “I’m not mad. Just… surprised.” He smiled when Jaejoong let out a long sigh of relief. He was so cute when he got flustered and Junsu felt his heart melting all over again. A stupid grin plastered on his face as Jaejoong dragged him away to his room to show him a new piece of art as Micky whimpered from the floor.
Once Jaejoong was finished gushing about his art, Junsu pulled him close and the young man hushed in surprise. Not that he didn’t like it when Jaejoong told him about his art, but he hadn’t gotten to greet his boyfriend properly, and laid a deep kiss on him to remind him of that fact. He liked it when Jaejoong melted against him, because it made him do the same. He also liked it when his lover would take the lead, like he did now and pinned Junsu up against the wall as they kissed. He loved it when Jaejoong’s hands grew bold and set fire to every spot he touched. Junsu had to force himself to stop as he knew they’d just left Micky out on the floor in the living room. Unfortunately, Jaejoong’s lips were much more important that Micky’s pain.
“Are you guys done yet?”
They pulled apart abruptly to see Micky standing in the doorway, tapping his foot as he waited, arms crossed.
“NO,” Jaejoong replied in annoyance before he pulled Junsu into another kiss and Junsu smiled into it.
Micky let out a big long sigh and Junsu couldn’t help giggling against Jaejoong’s lips. “I think he’s bored.”
“He could join,” Jaejoong suggested as they both looked at Micky deviously.
He turned down the offer with a smirk. “I think you two have enough on your plate with one another.”
Jaejoong raised an eyebrow. “Oh?” He glanced at Junsu, who assumed Micky normally would have played along better than this. “You have someone else in mind?”
“Not really…” Micky turned a tremendous shade of red the two knew Jaejoong was right.
Jaejoong slipped from Junsu’s hold and approached Micky. “Tell me.” It was obvious from the tone of his voice how excited he was.
“No,” Micky snapped with a frown and tried to escape as Jaejoong grabbed his arm and whined. “Oh, Jesus, fine! She sat with me at the coffee shop for a while the other night.”
“Who?” Junsu asked confused by the entire conversation.
“Who do you think?” Jaejoong grinned. “Did you actually talk this time?”
“Of course!” Micky growled and glared. “I’m not your kind of stupid!” Jaejoong gave him a sour look for that. “We… we talked about stuff and she helped me study and then we both left.”
“But you didn’t ask her out.” Jaejoong crossed his arms in disappointment when Micky shook his head.
“Oh!” Junsu blurted out as it came to him and the two turned to stare at him. “Ah, well, Kumi right?” he replied as he felt his face heat, and Jaejoong rolled his eyes with a laugh.
“Who else would we talk about?” Jaejoong teased.
“I dunno, doesn’t he chase most cute girls?” Junsu gestured at the greasy one.
“He has a point,” Micky said as he nodded thoughtfully. “But it matters not! We were going shopping, yes?”
“Yes.” Jaejoong nodded an affirmative before he looked to Junsu. “Yes?”
“I suppose I could use some new pants…” he muttered innocently with a glance to Jaejoong, who looked as if he wanted to reply, but also didn’t. Junsu knew that Jaejoong understood what he’d meant, particularly about a pair of jeans that Jaejoong had managed to get Junsu to soil while fooling around.
Micky, though, didn’t miss a beat and went into his room, talking about something the entire time as he grabbed his wallet. He caught their attention when he returned. “So, pants?”
The other two agreed and the trio headed to the mall in search of pants, as if on a quest. Jaejoong tended to like trendy stores, and Junsu didn’t mind, since he shopped in the same stores as well. While Micky quietly complained about the price tags, Jaejoong shushed him and told him it was technically a small price for looking damn good. Junsu had to agree as his eyes looked over Jaejoong’s wardrobe for the day. He had to wonder if he’d get to peel those pants off of Jaejoong later.
The three wandered around in the clothing store Jaejoong had picked for a good half hour before Junsu and Micky decided to try on a few things they’d picked up. Jaejoong had managed to stave off his need for clothing at the risk of making his wallet cry—or so he claimed—so he sat outside and waited for the two in the dressing rooms. Junsu had a feeling he liked using his fashion sense on other people more than himself, so he figured it wouldn’t hurt to humor Jaejoong. He might get some good tips out of it anyway. He slipped a shirt over his head before pulling on a pair of jeans, and damn if he didn’t love the jeans they sold here. He had 2 pairs already and would have more if they weren’t so darned expensive. He shrugged his reasonable side off and emerged from the dressing room just as Micky did.
Jaejoong looked the two over with a critical eye before he stopped and his gaze flicked quickly between them. A little smirk found its way to his lips and Junsu wondered just what was going on in his head.
“Turn around,” the artist ordered. The two looked at one another and Jaejoong smiled. “Trust me.” They shrugged and did as they were told. It wasn’t but 3 seconds later when they heard snickering, and then outright laughter.
“Okay, I’ll bite,” Micky said and crossed his arms as they turned back to their laughing friend. “What?”
It took a moment for Jaejoong to control his laughter, but he snickered though his words. “His ass looks great, but you don’t even come close to filling out the back of your jeans! Is your ass concave?!” Jaejoong lost it again as Micky sputtered and stormed back into his dressing room with a slam of the door. Junsu tried to squelch a smile, but he was failing until one of the employees asked them to try to stay quiet. He apologized before shooting Jaejoong a look of amusement, which made the young man giggle again.
“Couldn’t resist, could you?” he asked as he walked over and ruffled Jaejoong’s hair.
“You know me!” He grinned.
Junsu leaned down to press a kiss to his lips, hoping Jaejoong didn’t think it was a reward for his behavior. He then let go of his lover’s hand to enter the dressing room again. He went through three outfits and had Jaejoong pick two pairs of pants and one of the shirts before they were satisfied with the haul.
It would have been a lie for Junsu to have said the rest of the shopping was uneventful. He kind of liked going shopping with these two. They kept things interesting, and enjoyed including him on the banter. It didn’t take him long to get comfortable with teasing Micky, who dished it right back. He wanted to keep this friendship for a long time, and knew Jaejoong would be happy to let him.
The three were wandering near the food court when they saw Boa and Hyori whispering amongst themselves, and Boa began to sneeze.
“Hey, you’re not getting sick are you? Need my leading lady,” Junsu said as he stopped next to their table.
“Ah, sorry,” Boa looked up at him with pitiful eyes. “I’m starting to come down with something.”
“Are you kidding?” Micky asked incredulously, his face falling when she shook her head.
“Yunho ran off to get something for me, but I don’t know where he went,” she told them as her eyes searched the crowds.
“You should be at home resting, not here,” Micky scolded her as she laughed and gave them some excuse that none of them believed. “Well, the show must go on. Jaejoong, take her place in the play.”
Jaejoong stared at his roommate. “Excuse me?”
“You sing like a girl, you can take her place. You’re just as pretty!” Micky reasoned and ducked when Jaejoong took a swipe at him.
“I wanna hear you sing!” Boa chirped.
“Me too!” Junsu added and Jaejoong stopped mid-punch with a sigh.
“Fiiiiine.” Jaejoong took a breath and did a short, but very well sung version of an older pop song he and Boa both knew, serenading her the entire time, until the end when he pulled his hand away so as not to get sick. When finished, he asked for hand sanitizer which earned him a thwack to the side of his head from Boa and Hyori, who were laughing.
“See? He’s good!” Micky beamed.
“You are.” Junsu nodded with a grin.
Jaejoong was holding back a blush as he accepted the compliments and turned to Micky. “NO.”
“Why nooooot?” Micky whined.
Luckily, right at that moment, Yunho appeared with a bag and a grin before he grabbed Boa’s hand to drag her away.
“Nice timing,” she managed before she sneezed again.
With a sigh, he sat her down on the bench and took a place next to her, setting the bag he had between them. “I got you a few things, and don’t you dare tell me you’re going to pay me back,” he told her as she rolled her eyes before another sneeze escaped. He grabbed a big box from the bag and handed it to her, “Tissues.”
Boa laughed and ripped the top open to pull a tissue out and use it. “Thanks.”
“Cough drops, and cough syrup, and this one has stuff for your nose, so you can catch it before it spreads to your throat,” he explained as he pointed at the bottle.
“Yunho,” she said softly as she took the bottle, and he knew she was trying to protest.
“And!” he pulled out another bottle. “Vitamins!”
She chuckled. “Yunho, you don’t have to do this.”
He smiled at the sound of her voice, even as her nose was starting to get stuffy. “Say it again.”
Boa blinked. “What?”
“My name.”
She smiled shyly. “Yunho.”
He smiled to himself this time and glanced down before he took all of the things and put them back in the bag. Setting the bag on the floor, he scooted closer and touched her cheek, ignoring the surprised look in her eyes. “I know you probably want to take care of yourself, but I’d at least like to help.”
Boa smiled and glanced down before she brought her hand up to cover Yunho’s and caught his gaze. “You know how you said it was just you and me and the music?” Yunho nodded as she paused to nibble on her lip before she continued, “Could it be just you and me?”
Yunho’s breath caught in his throat before he smiled down at her, knowing he wanted the same thing.
And then he kissed her.

It was dark, but Harang didn’t seem to mind. He was in as light of a mood as ever. He was with his master and that’s all that seemed to matter. Micky laughed as Harang brought a stick to him, so he grabbed the stick with a playful intent. He wrestled it out of Harang’s mouth and unhitched his leash before tossing the stick away. As Harang ran off, Micky looked over his script again and kept walking. Harang wasn’t stupid, he’d be back with the stick. After the hectic shopping excursion earlier in the day, Micky found that hanging out with Harang in the grassier areas of campus were relaxing.
He was reciting a few lines when Harang returned and he again wrestled the stick away as he spoke the lines at Harang before he threw the stick. Each time Harang returned, he barked excitedly and bounced as Micky teased him, pretending to throw it. Finally, Harang appeared without the stick and Micky scolded him.
“How could you lose it? It’s not even that dark!” he teased before he realized someone was following Harang and looked up in shock. “Kumi…”
“Hey,” she replied as her fingers tangled in Harang’s fur. To Micky, it looked like she was holding on for dear life, but the dog just glanced up at her and barked playfully. She giggled and scratched his rump. “Brat,” she teased.
“That he is,” Micky assured her with a nod and she laughed. He watched as she showered attention over his dog and noticed her nails were now simple French tips. He kept that particular observation to himself and smiled at how much Harang liked her. Harang had hated that last girl he’d seen during the summer. It made him wonder.
“What are you doing out so late?” he asked as he crouched before Harang to mess with his collar.
“Ah, well, I just finished my shift at the restaurant. I have a feeling your furball here can smell the food on me,” she explained as Harang began sniffing her clothing, then the bag she was holding as she laughed.
Micky glanced down at the papers in his hands, not wanting to ruin the moment she was having. He had to admit, she was really pretty when she was dressed normally like this, without pretense.
“You know, I saw your last play.”
“Hm?” Micky’s eyes shot up when he realized what she’d said and watched as she buried her fingers in Harang’s fur.
“You were really good,” she said quietly, a little smile lingering on her lips.
He stared. He couldn’t even think. She’d gone to the play? How could he have missed her? What should he say? Hell, what should he do?
“I stopped by a few times when you guys were practicing too. It looked like a lot of fun,” she told him as she dug her nails into Harang’s neck—the dog looking blissful and Micky took a chance.
“You know, I’m taking him to the dog park tomorrow afternoon,” he mentioned as he hooked the leash onto Harang’s collar again and stood. “You’re welcome to join if you want.”
Kumi’s face lit up. “Really?”
Micky nodded, his head feeling light and wondered if this was how Jaejoong felt every time Junsu smiled. “Sure thing. I could pick you up if you like, too.”
“Great! Um, let’s trade numbers,” she offered and pulled out her phone. They recited their numbers and email to one another before Kumi had to bow out so she could go home and get some sleep after a long day at work. Micky waved as she glanced back and returned it before she turned the corner and was gone.
He sighed and a cold nose snuck under his hand. “So, did I do it right this time?” he asked openly. Harang leaned against him and whuffed. Micky laughed and smiled as he crouched to happily scratch Harang’s neck.
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
