Confirmation was all he needed. Jae’s eyes flew open as suddenly one thing was on his mind—thirst. He put together his strongest shields in record time and let go of Micky’s hand as he set up one to hide his presence. One moment he was on the ground and the next, the world flew by him as he moved to hide above and behind their spy. Pride and relief flowed through Jae when the vampire didn’t even notice that anyone had passed his way. Jae watched the vampire silently from his perch atop some rafters in the unfinished building next to the hospital they’d taken over for the night. The vampire crept toward his friends, slipping behind each pillar that he came across as Jae followed him above. His little friend was about to get to the door when Jae decided he couldn’t wait any longer.
Pushing off of a beam with both hands and feet, Jae hurled himself toward the vampire and pinned him to the floor as cracking bones echoed in the empty area. He ignored the sounds and struggling as he leaned down to sink his teeth into the side of the vampire’s neck. He knew he couldn’t stop the venom, but it wasn’t like he needed to. All he cared about was—the blood.
Jae licked his lips as he pulled back to let the venom take effect. He shivered at the way the blood tasted to him; the way it quenched his thirst just for that short moment. He nibbled on his lower lip and hesitated as he wondered if it was the right thing to do. The scent hit him then and his lips were on the vampire’s neck again before he could stop himself. But it just wasn’t enough. He pulled the vampire’s head back by his hair and bit again, this time hitting the central veins and licked up what blood poured out on the neck before latching on again to drink in the delicious liquid. He knew he should be nauseated by the taste and horrified by the sight, but it felt so damn good. And just as he drank down the blood, so too he drank in the vampire’s life force. Little by little, he stole every bit of life from this vampire for himself and felt it rush through his body as he collected every scrap of power he could until there was none.
When he disengaged, Jae felt a wave of guilt sweep through him. He looked down at the vampire, lifeless under his hands. This had been a person; a person who at some time in their life was happy and loved by others. A closer look revealed that the vampire couldn’t have been but a few years older than Jae when he was changed. He had to wonder how long the guy had been a vampire. Had he wanted to attack the Parks? And even if so, who had convinced him that the Parks were in the wrong and needed to be eliminated? Had he agreed?
What if he hadn’t?
Jae shook his head. If this was a spy scouting ahead, he was loyal to Jin, and had to be taken out at all costs. At least now no one would know where they were and this vampire couldn’t report back to Jin about their location. A sigh escaped him when he realized they could have questioned this vampire.
It was about that time Jae felt the eyes on him and looked up to see a handful of his friends gaping at him in surprise. Jae glanced down at the dead vampire and then back to his friends. Had he done the right thing? Or was he wrong? His eyes met Micky’s and Jae knew he saw amazement. Whether he was right or wrong didn’t matter when it came to earning their respect. Yunho’s gaze was the same, mixed with a bit of fear. Jae knew that even though Yunho understood it might end up this way, the young man probably hadn’t been ready for this.
Micky was the first to step forward and crouch down next to the newly changed vampire. “How was your first kill?”
Jae stared for a moment before he smirked. “Delicious.”
Micky could only snort and beckoned him to return with them. As Jae walked into the main room they’d occupied, Jae was properly congratulated with smacks to the back and looks of respect from all of the other vampires and some of the wolves he knew. It felt like this was the day he’d truly graduated. Yunho hung back as the moment passed and after the group began to move away, Jae noticed him off by himself near a corner, pushing dust around with his toes.
“I have a feeling he’s not sure what to think,” Changmin said softly, for only Jae to hear.
“Is he scared?” Jae asked.
“I don’t know for sure.” The other vampire shrugged. “Maybe scared. Now that you’ve changed, will you last together?” Changmin left the question open as he wandered away and Jae felt his chest grow cold at the suggestion. He refused to think that their relationship would end because he’d turned into a vampire. For once he was scared that Yunho wouldn’t accept him as he was—what he’d become.
And why should he? He was now changed and completely different. But… It hung in the air as he thought. But he was still the same person, right? The same person with the same experiences and friendships and soul—hopefully?—as before. No, he was still the same, just… altered.
Despite the fear, Jae moved away from the quietly talking group and moved to the private corner Yunho had taken up. He hesitated a moment when Yunho glanced up and caught his eye, uncertainty tainting his gaze, but Jae kept moving. He wasn’t going to let Yunho doubt what they had. Jae went straight up to his lover and hugged him, relief flooding through him when the werewolf hugged back tightly.
Yunho breathed in deeply, his face buried in Jae’s shoulder as he did so. “You smell different.”
Jae stiffened in Yunho’s arms, to scared to move. “Is that bad?”
“Not bad, just—different,” he replied, breathing in again. “I almost didn’t want them to,” he admitted quietly. “I wasn’t sure if you would still be you.”
Jae pulled back a little to catch Yunho’s gaze. “Are you mad?”
“Mad?”
“That I’ve changed,” Jae mumbled, unsure of what to say.
Yunho shook his head and touched the young vampire’s cheek. “You came to me, that’s all I really wanted.”
Jae let out the breath he’d been holding and let Yunho pull him into another tight hug. Just because he’d transformed into a vampire didn’t mean their relationship had to end. Tension disappeared between them as Yunho kissed his temple.
“I hope you’ll still find me worthy when we get back,” Yunho teased quietly.
Jae scoffed. “I dunno…” he murmured as he pulled back to look the man in his arms up and down. “I’m not sure I’m into hairy guys…”
Yunho pulled him into a headlock as he laughed quietly and endured a noogie. When they finally untangled, Yunho’s fingers caught Jae’s hand and drew him closer. He knew from the myths, he was supposed to be dead, but for some reason, he could feel his heart pounding in his ears. But now, he could also feel Yunho’s heart, sense his pulse quickening as they moved closer. Had Micky felt this way when they were together? The feeling came at him in a rush as they pressed their lips together. Jae’s hand brushed over Yunho’s neck, feeling the veins beneath the skin. He could feel Yunho’s excitement with just one touch. It was a thrilling feeling and Jae wasn’t sure how he would get used to it. But now, he had plenty of time to explore it.
Time—he broke the kiss as he pulled back. “Dad…”
Guilt weighed him down as Yunho’s look sobered. “We’ll worry about it when we get back. Okay?”
Jae wanted to say something, but he didn’t know what he could possibly say to his lover, so he settled for a nod and let Yunho lead him back to the group that was waiting. It was when Micky walked up to them and addressed Yunho that Jae noticed it.
He wasn’t sure exactly how he knew it, or how it even worked, but he could tell that there was something going on between Yunho and Micky. He could just sense it. To keep from staring and frowning at them, Jae excused himself and went straight to Changmin, sending him a wordless feeling of confusion through his shields.
The vampire shrugged and sighed in exasperation. “You know I can only feel one side and all I can tell you is, you’re right. Something has been going on.”
“But what?” Jae hissed as they moved away.
“I can’t tell, but you really should tell them your feelings before you burst,” Changmin advised as Jae shook his head.
“I need to know what’s going on before—”
Changmin put a hand on his mouth, effectively cutting him off and catching his gaze. “Let your shields down to me.”
Jae opened his mouth to retort against the hand, but pursed his lips together in frustration instead and closed his eyes as he let his feelings tumble out just for Changmin. He heard a slight intake of breath, as if what he’d done had either hurt or surprised the other vampire. When he pulled his feelings back again, he opened his eyes to see Changmin open his eyes and shift his hand to Jae’s cheek.
“Jaejoong. Just tell them.” He gave the young vampire a stern look. “Now. Before my head explodes.”
Jae tightened his shields and stepped back as Changmin’s hand fell away. He hesitated before he gave the vampire a nervous nod and turned to go back to his counterparts. As he slipped his way through the others, he found the other two speaking in Korean and laughing about something when he returned. Ignoring it, he urged them to follow him and led them away into an abandoned room where some of Yunho’s pack had slept that day. Changmin was right, he was being stupid.
“I need to tell you two something.” Jae cleared his throat as they glanced at each other, then rested their gazes on him. “I…” he hesitated as he found it nerve wracking to actually confess for once, rather than the other way around. He’d had people tell him they liked him, but he’d never really experienced the other side of the coin. Anxious, he now understood the feeling of not knowing what the reply would be.
“Well, spit it out!” Micky urged with his patented sly smirk.
“I love you,” Jae blurted out as they both blinked in surprise. “Both of you.” He glanced away, waiting for a rebuttal, but none came.
He heard a shoe scrape on the concrete and felt surprise when the two hugged him—Yunho from the front and Micky from behind.
“I love you too,” Yunho murmured.
“I love you three,” Yoochun whispered, a hint of teasing in his voice as Jae let out a breath of relief and hugged them back.
“Is that cheating?” Yunho teased.
“Only if he’s trying to take the top,” Jae insinuated as the vampire let go and scoffed, offended.
“Oh, you think I can’t top?” Yoochun crossed his arms as Jae snuggled closer to Yunho’s warmth.
“I think we can share,” Jae suggested as Yunho grinned.
“Yes, I think we can.”
When they returned to the group, Rain reproached them for being gone for too long, but as the meeting started, Yoochun and Yunho stood just behind Jae, their hands linked with each of his. Jae listened to every word, not letting himself be distracted just because he’d managed to finally understand their connection. He listened to every order that went out to the groups from the leaders and when everyone broke up to get ready, Jae moved to go to Changmin, but Yunho held him back.
“Hey, why—”
“The bracelet is gone.”
Jae frowned and turned to see Yunho holding the hand he’d slipped the bracelet on before they left. “What do you… mean…” Jae trailed off as he stared. It really was gone. His heart fell as he realized he must have lost it.
Jae shook his head, unhappy. “It must have fallen off in the confusion. Sorry,” he offered as Yunho smiled and shook his head.
“Don’t worry about it,” he said and stole a kiss. “I better get to my group. Be careful. I know I’ll see you when we get to Jin.”
Jae grinned. “Of course.”
Yunho trotted away as Yoochun moved closer and Changmin tapped his foot. The vampire just grinned and turned to Jae. “Just wanted to wish you luck.”
“Thanks. I’ll need it now that my bracelet is gone.” Jae chuckled.
“It was there when we turned you.” He shrugged when Jae stared at him. “The onyx one, right? It was on your wrist when I was holding it.”
“Did you take it?” Jae asked.
“Why would I take it?” Yoochun frowned confused.
Jae frowned in reply and glanced toward the spot he’d been laying. He took a step closer when he thought he saw glittering near the blood from when his fingers had dug into Yoochun’s hand, but as he moved nearer, it was gone. He shook his head, wondering if it was his imagination.
“Something the matter?” Yoochun murmured into his ear, his velvety tone catching Jae’s attention.
“Oh, just the blood,” Jae lied as things started to piece together for him.
“Though that’s my blood, you did lose a lot more blood than I expected,” Yoochun murmured. “It doesn’t always work if the person is injured, Jaejoong. You got lucky. I wasn’t sure you’d make it.”
“But I did,” Jae said as he turned to the vampire with a smile. “Thanks for staying with me.”
“Anytime.” The vampire smiled and was rewarded with a kiss before they bid one another farewell and Jae finally joined his group. Changmin gave Jae a scowl for being slow before he quickly briefed the group and suggested they move out. Jae gave one last glance back to Yoochun and Yunho, who both gave him knowing looks, and headed out with his group.
It was almost a repeat of the night before. Minus that part where Jae got stabbed. Jae rubbed the spot on his chest where the blade had gone through as he peeked around a corner from where he was crouched. He knew just because he was a vampire didn’t mean he couldn’t be taken by surprise the way they all had last night. He was taking every precaution to keep from really getting killed on this mission. He could at least make sure that the wolves returned home all in one piece. Well, he could make sure Aaron did anyway. So far, the wolf had sustained a scrape on his leg from when he had chased a vampire through a chain link fence and caught his leg on a sharp edge of the links. All that had done was slow them up as Hyori made sure his cut was cleaned.
When they got the call that Kumi’s team had found Jin and that they needed backup, Jae didn’t miss the gleam in Changmin’s eyes. He caught Jae’s gaze and the team immediately moved to join their friends. The world was a blur as they moved as quickly as they could through the streets and into the building. Once they met up with their friends, they fought their way closer to the leader and Jae couldn’t find it in him to feel any fear. Revenge burned in him. He wanted Jin to feel as scared as he’d felt when Kame had attacked them.
They were so close to Jin. They had finally surrounded the room he was in when Yoochun’s team arrived. Jae glanced up from his hiding spot as someone jumped the makeshift barricade and attacked one of the wolves. There was a loud scuffle as both sides moved to help.
“Miss me?” Yoochun asked as he slipped beside Jae.
“Ready to do your stuff?” Jae asked with a smirk, already building his strongest shields around the other vampire.
Yoochun cracked his knuckles and grinned. “Let’s do this.”
Yoochun’s speed was matched by none. They didn’t even have to count to three. As soon as Jae nodded, everyone attacked and Yoochun could be seen by none. He moved here and there, dancing between the fights from what Jae could see while he himself was fighting. He took down two enemies before there was a yell.
“ENOUGH!”
Everyone stopped to look up and see Jin at the doorway, Yoochun holding him tightly with a knife against his neck. Jin’s eyes burned with hate and his underlings stopped in shock that their master could be taken. They were quickly forced from the room by a few of the teams as the others stayed to make sure Jin couldn’t escape. They didn’t come this far to let their guard down.
Yoochun let Junsu and Liyin take charge of Jin and pushed him down to sit on the floor to hold him there. Once the leader was secure, Yoochun let out a sigh of relief and caught Jae’s eyes. Finally—Yoochun walked away and right into Jae’s arms as they hugged tightly, Jae’s chest filling with relief and joy as Yunho hugged him from behind. And Changmin came up to bump shoulders with them.
“Pathetic.”
They let go and Jae saw the look of disgust on Jin’s face.
“Werewolves?” he scoffed. “And, aw, true love.” He jeered. “And you!” His eyes focused on Jae this time. “Didn’t want to be a vampire before and now you’re one of them. You give vampires a bad name. Make me fucking sick.” He spat on Jae’s boots.
Jae stepped forward. “And you don’t?”
“I do what we’re supposed to do, wimp. Humans are made to be eaten, and wolves to be tamed as slaves,” he scorned with an arrogant sniff. “Your coven makes me sick.”
“He doesn’t get it,” Yoochun muttered from behind and Jae shook his head. What a waste.
“Who the hell said we had to act like you?” Jae asked.
“Well then, I expect my punishment to be pathetic as well, then—wannabe.” Jin smirked triumphantly as Jae rolled his eyes.
“We didn’t decimate your entire following without killing them,” Yunho said darkly.
“A problem that will be remedied soon enough,” Jin threatened, his voice a deep grumble. Yunho stepped forward as if to challenge him, but Jae put an arm up to stop him. “Stupid mutt. What are you going to do, bark me to death?” he taunted as Yunho growled, the sound rumbling through his chest.
And then an idea emerge in Jae’s mind. “Let me show you,” he replied, feeling a little sadistic. He crouched down to grab the vampire’s leg. Jin struggled but Jae tugged his pant leg up to sink his teeth into the skin of his enemy’s leg—in the very spot Kame had bitten him. Jin howled and cursed as Jae let his venom flow into the vampire. He disengaged when he knew it was spreading up the vampire’s leg and wiped his chin from Jin’s blood. He couldn’t even bring himself to drink it as he spat on the floor.
“Sick, just like me,” Jin mocked with a grin. “Torture instead of death.”
“Kill you?” Jae spat at Jin’s feet this time. “You’re not worth it,” he growled as Jin began to snap and ridicule him, but he didn’t care. He turned and walked away as Junsu and Liyin kept Jin down. Jae felt proud of himself for resisting the kill and looked up to see the same feeling in Yunho and Micky’s eyes. Kumi had her arms crossed as she nodded. She agreed, and Jae knew he’d earned some respect. Someone would kill Jin, but Jae didn’t have to be the one. Let someone else take the glory for the day.
Jae froze as he heard two gunshots echo in the room and feared the worst. He was confused when he didn’t feel anything, but watched in horror as two spots of red appeared on Yunho’s chest as a choked gasp hit his ears. The young man fell to his knees as Yoochun tried to catch him, Aaron grabbing him on his other side. Rage filled Jae as he turned to see the venom finally hit Jin’s arm and his hand fall to the floor, the butt of the gun echoing off the concrete. Jae’s body shook as he closed the distance between them, Jin’s smirk filling his vision.
Jin’s eyes danced as if he thought he’d won. Jae could hear the yells and panic going on behind him, but ignored it as he knew what he had to do. Junsu and Liyin held Jin down, making sure he couldn’t possibly move again as Jae stopped before the vampire.
But suddenly Changmin pushed past him to grab the font of Jin’s shirt. “Why? Why him?” he asked, fear and anger pouring from him. “Why not Junsu?!” he demanded as Jae watched in shock.
“Junsu would have seen it coming.” Jin’s eyes sparkled at the fear. “No, it was because he was the only one you stood to lose,” he answered simply and to the point.
“You fucking bastard!!” Changmin snarled enraged as Jin laughed. He was about to wrap his hands around Jin’s neck when Jae decided he wanted the pleasure. He grabbed Changmin to pull him away and when their eyes met, Changmin’s gaze switched to a cold anger and they both turned to glare at Jin.
Jae leaned down as he pulled out his gun and hoped Jin could see the hatred in his eyes. Soon, the smirk melted away from Jin’s face as Jae’s lips twisted. “Thank you.”
“For what?” he snarled.
“For giving me a reason.”
The sudden fear in Jin’s eyes drove him as he stepped back and brought the gun up. He could hear Yoochun yelling at Yunho about something, but he focused on the vampire on the floor. Before Jin could even speak Jae fired two shots, pinpointing the spots where Yunho had been shot in the chest. Only this time the bullets were filled with the silver liquid, and Jin didn’t stand a chance. Jae watched carefully as Jin choked his last breath, anger smoldering at the back of the young vampire’s mind.
Yunho’s howl alerted him as he and Changmin turned in fear. The man writhed in pain and Jae knew what was coming. He could see blood had trickled out the side of Yunho’s mouth and paused when he saw Micky holding an arm against Yunho’s, blood between them. Jae stared in dread as the gun slipped from his fingers.
Yunho…
“YUNHO!”

Yunho…
“YUNHO!”

i'm...speechless.
so many things to consider!!
oh jae! so vengeful! but it feels so good. i'm glad he was given a reason and evil jin was put to death.
although, i always thought it'd be Changmin who'd do it. but really, as long as he's dead, i'm not complaining =DJaeHoChun. 0_0
finally. finally. finally.
yesssss. thank you! thank you! thank you! /throws confetti and seriously considers dancing around a bonfire naked.b-b-but!! yunho.
TT.TT
what's going to happen to him? die? die? die?! he can't die!!
there hasnt even been a chance to witness happy/sappy JaeHoChun! i refuse to believe he'll pass just like that. although...
its not like he can become a vampire either. and he IS a werewolf. so he can heal himself. then again, i'm not sure what kind of bullets Jin used whether or not they're effective on werewolves.
ugh. so many things to consider!!
can't wait for the next chapter ^^
