12: Why I Like You

“They left.” Yunho glanced up to see Mr. Kim nod slowly.

“So, Yunho.” The way he said it made Yunho catch the man’s gaze for longer. “Was there any truth to the story about the cold ones your father told me? I know your grandfather disliked the Parks.”

Yunho froze for a moment. He wasn’t sure what to say, but with Jae’s father being a best friend to his own father, he was likely to have been around at least once for one of his grandfather’s tirades. Yunho wondered if Mr. Kim had met the Parks in the past. “You think I would know?”

“I only know that my son is in pain, and it’s because someone left him,” Mr. Kim said softly as he glanced at the stairs. “Please help him deal with the pain. I have a feeling he won’t open up to me.”

Yunho smiled a little. “If you told him you knew…”

Mr. Kim smiled in return. “I think he likes keeping it a secret.”

Yunho chuckled. He always did. Jae liked secrets.

~*~

Jae slipped out of Yunho’s arms and pushed the blanket over Yunho’s face. All these years and he couldn’t unlearn the sleeping with his mouth wide open and his eyes half open. It had been creepy at first, but Jae got used to it. Yunho was Yunho and he liked him that way. As he got out of the bed, Jae contemplated getting him one of those sleep eye covers. Maybe black satin, with pink lips over each eye, he thought with a smirk.

Not bothering to put anything on, Jae made his way down to the bathroom. Being naked was just too convenient. Although no one could see in, habit always had him locking the door behind himself. And though covered with curtains, the windows that the loft had were far too high for anyone to look in. The place was pretty soundproof as well. They found that out when they came back from a run and happened upon an amorous couple on the second floor. No noise left that loft once the couple was inside. It gave the two men free reign to be as loud as they wanted, and particularly for Yunho to play his dance music as loud as he pleased.

Returning to Yunho’s arms, Jae thought about other advantages of the apartment. Privacy was nice and Jae reveled in it. He also liked the fact that Yunho had the top floor and could get to the roof the easiest. They had, on more than one occasion, gone up there not to train, but to see the sunset. He smirked at the times they had also done a few things up there that might have gotten them arrested, but no one was looking anyway.

A smile snuck onto his lips when Yunho shifted closer and hid his face against Jae’s neck with an incoherent grumble. He kissed Yunho’s forehead and smiled. Yunho was such a baby. But he couldn’t help but love this big, obnoxious baby in his arms.

“BooJaejoong,” Yunho huffed against his neck. “Remember when I called you that?”

Jae snorted. “Yes.”

“Did Micky call you that?” he asked, his voice softer this time.

“Everyone calls me that, but yes,” Jae replied just as quietly, the vampire appearing in his thoughts after quite some time. He hadn’t had time to think of Micky when his life was so full of other things, but all the same, he still missed what they had.

“Does it bother you if I do?” He traced little circles on Jae’s lower back which only made the young man smile.

“Doubtful, since you were the first person to call me that. You have the right to anyway.” Jae could feel the smile against his skin, then the kiss Yunho placed. That was one reason he loved Yunho—he was such a pushover.

There was a short silence before Yunho finally broke it. “What would you do if he came back?”

Jae glanced down and caught his lover’s serious gaze. “What do you mean?”

“You know what I mean.” Yunho really didn’t beat around the bush.

“Yunho, I didn’t leave him for you, did I?”

“That’s different.”

“Is it?” Jae touched his cheek and looked him in the eyes. “I never stopped loving you.”

“But—then…”

“I still love him,” he replied honestly.

“Is that possible?” Yunho asked with a nervous smile.

“You dated girls and you still loved me,” Jae reasoned with a smile.

“I… suppose you’re right.” So, Yunho had felt something for them at one time. Not surprising.

“I can’t explain it.” Jae said softly and decided to tell Yunho. “But I love Changmin and Junsu too.”

Yunho frowned as he took this in. “Love them?” Jae nodded and Yunho looked away thoughtfully.

“You liked them being around right?” Jae suggested, hoping to sway how his lover felt about them.

“I had a crush on Changmin once.”

“And I—what?!” Jae stared as Yunho blushed and refused to look at him. “Wait, wait, wait. Explain!”

He whined and misdirected as best he could before Jae finally leveled him a glare before he finally caved. “I met him at the shop,” Yunho explained, meaning the auto repair shop he worked at. “Changmin and Heechul came in asking for parts and we had to order them. I thought he was cute.” Yunho shrugged. “Heechul hit on me though.”

Jae snorted with a smirk. He’d never seen Heechul hit on someone, but judging by his current lover Shiwon, Yunho was probably his type—tall, handsome and muscular.

“Changmin came back a few times and talked to me. Then I mentioned him in front of my grandpa who ranted about them being blood suckers.” He sighed and Jae got the impression that this was when Yunho stopped believing his grandfather’s stories. “He stopped by once more to pick up the parts and I saw him kissing Junsu by his car.”

Jae smiled knowingly. They probably didn’t sense him since Micky couldn’t. If they’d known, they probably would have avoided contact altogether. Especially if they’d known he was a descendant of the werewolves. “You had a crush on a vampire,” he teased with a grin.

“Shut up,” Yunho grumbled into the pillow, hiding his face.

“Cute, isn’t he?” Jae bit his lip to keep from laughing.

“His long hair reminded me of yours,” Yunho peeked out with a grin.

Jae laughed. “That mop I had when we first kissed? I daresay Changmin styles his better. And aren’t you glad I cut it before I came back the next year? I figured it would get in the way while making out.” He winked as Yunho laughed. Jae shook his head in amusement and sat up with a sigh.

“You miss them,” Yunho said as he sat up as well, his hand lightly rubbing Jae’s lower back.

“Yeah,” he replied softly and smiled a little at his memories. “I know your pack isn’t supposed to like them and all, but they were a lot nicer than a lot of people I’ve met. They changed their ways for me.”

“It affected the pack too,” Yunho murmured. “We decided to work with them because of the way the Parks treated you and other humans. Without you, there might have been a fight.”

“Without you.” Jae poked his chest. “You’re the accepting one.”

Yunho scoffed. “You start to think more about being accepting when you want to be accepted, not tolerated,” he replied softly, his arm hugging Jae close. The comment made Jae feel warm, and not because of the arm around him.

“I thought you wanted to have kids someday,” Jae teased.

Yunho chuckled. “You are a handful all by yourself.” He leaned closer and stole a kiss. Jae had to admit, he had a point.

Yunho slipped out of the bed then and padded down to the bathroom, so Jae burrowed under the blankets. Minutes later he heard the TV turn on and Yunho flip the channels. Just as he was about to drift off to the droning Jae heard the newscaster speaking about another killing that had happened in Seattle. Jae slipped out of bed and pulled on a pair of his underwear out from his bag before he went down to join Yunho sitting on his secondhand sofa. Yunho’s posture was completely different from just five minutes ago. He sat forward on the sofa, elbows on each knee with his fingers enlaced together just in front of his mouth. His expression brought home how serious this was and Jae sighed.

“You don’t want to sit back and do nothing.” Jae watched his lover nod. “I feel the same way.”

“Why won’t they do anything?” Yunho grumbled and stood, pacing back and forth between the couch and the TV. “It’s not like the problem is going to go away.”

“I thought you said Kame was powerful. They might be trying to find friends to help them,” Jae suggested as he muted the TV, not wanting to hear all about the gruesome death. “Maybe that’s why Rain is developing that drug.” Yunho made a thoughtful sound and Jae stood next to him. “Let’s just ask Kumi for an update next time she comes back.”

“I tried last time, but it’s like she doesn’t want us to fight or she’s waiting for something,” Yunho grumbled.

“We’re probably the last line of defense,” Jae told him and wandered away to get ready for his run. “You know she’d never think we deserve to die in a fight between Jin and the Parks. It’s not really our fight.”

“But innocent people shouldn’t have to die like that,” Yunho growled, louder this time.

Jae froze and glanced back. “Innocent people die all the time,” he replied softly. “Sometimes they get saved though.” He blinked at Yunho’s surprised expression and turned away. He hadn’t meant how it came out at all. Jae quickly made his way back up to the bed and flopped down on his side. Letting that slip was the last thing he’d wanted to do.

He sighed when he felt the bed shift and Yunho scooted close behind him. Yunho didn’t say a word; he just rubbed Jae’s back and the young man felt himself relaxing just a bit from the touch.

“There’s something you’re not telling me.” Yunho kept rubbing his back and Jae wanted to be alone, but it felt good.

“Can I have a backrub?” he asked, hoping for a trade.

Yunho sighed, but Jae didn’t sense any frustration. “Lay on your stomach.”

Jae grunted contented as Yunho worked on his back muscles. He had to smirk for a moment—he could get Yunho to do pretty much anything. But that wasn’t why Yunho had done it. He sobered for a moment and thought about how he should word it.

“Do you remember when I said I hated girls in that conversation we had back last year?” he asked quietly before he grunted as Yunho worked out a knot in his back.

“When we were chatting on MSN?” Yunho asked as Jae nodded. “How could I forget? You told me to distract you, but you never told me why. It disturbed me a bit.”

“A girl in my school tried to commit suicide.” Jae bit his lip when Yunho’s hands paused and then began to massage his back again, slower this time. “She had a crush on me and was going to confess, but a group of girls found out. They didn’t think she was good enough to ask me out so they harassed her for it.”

Yunho didn’t say a word, he just kept rubbing Jae’s back gently, pulling his weight back so that it wasn’t a massage. For some reason, it kept Jae calm.

“I overheard the girls talking, saying they wished she’d really died and I couldn’t believe someone would do that because of me—because of how I looked.” Jae exhaled with a shake of his head. “For a moment, I didn’t want to exist so this girl wouldn’t have had to go through that.”

“It wasn’t your fault,” Yunho replied.

“And I know that, but still! I felt like in some way, I owed this girl something because she thought dying was better than living another day with the harassment from these girls. Get off for a second.” Jae waited for Yunho to move and sat up crosslegged. “Just felt like I needed my hands,” he told Yunho as his lover began to rub his back again.

“It’s fine,” Yunho said and kissed his shoulder. “Did you say anything to the girls?”

“No, because if I defended her, I knew they’d start spreading rumors.” Jae rubbed his face, his hands moving as he talked. “And I’d always disliked those girls. You know, the ones who will do anything to go out with you, then turn into total bitches when they have you wrapped around their finger and make you change to suit them instead? Those girls are just nasty.” His mouth twisted in distaste. “I went to visit the other girl instead.”

“Did she say anything?” Yunho scooted closer, his legs to either side of Jae as he wrapped his arms around the young man’s waist.

“She didn’t want me to see her at first and was too embarrassed to see me. And who could blame her? She refused to let me apologize, but I started to lecture her about how it wasn’t her fault and she started crying. She said she was horrible, but that she wished I didn’t exist so she wouldn’t have fallen for me and so people like those girls wouldn’t exist.” Jae shook his head. “All I could do was agree with her.”

“That’s not true.”

“I know.” Jae squeezed the arms around his middle. “She was the reason I decided to do foreign exchange.” Another sigh escaped him. “When I told her I was going, she told me her family was going to move so she could have a fresh start. I’m glad and I know she’s doing well, but it still wasn’t fair. I know how much it must have hurt to try to overcome what happened.”

“But she was saved,” Yunho replied. “That’s a good thing right?”

“But she has to live with what happened now,” Jae argued. “She was hurt because of me and my damn pretty face.” Jae pulled out of his arms and turned to point at his face. “I even thought about scarring myself so it wouldn’t happen again.”

“Whoa.” Yunho caught his arms and gave him a stern look. “She’s a stronger person now because of it. Don’t make the mistake of thinking she can’t live with the bad and the good. No one is that pure.”

Jae slumped in defeat. “I guess you’re right.”

“And you’re not allowed to scar your face.” Yunho huffed and Jae rolled his eyes. “Okay, well if you do, please avoid your lips and eyes.”

“The lips I understand, but my eyes?” Jae raised a curious eyebrow.

Yunho shrugged as a light blush appeared on his cheeks. “I like seeing myself in your big brown eyes.”

Jae burst out laughing as Yunho protested and told him to stop, but Jae couldn’t. “You’re so hopeless.”

“Yeah, well,” Yunho scratched his head embarrassed. “Feeling better?” he asked to receive a nod. “You’re not going to scar yourself, right?”

“No,” Jae told him as he shook his head. “It was just something that crossed my mind for five minutes right after I visited her. I knew it was ridiculous the moment it popped into my head.”

“Good.” Yunho sighed in relief.

Whipped, was all Jae could think. This fact was confirmed when Yunho pulled him closer for a deep kiss and Jae knew his lover was trying to make him feel better.

“So that’s why you’re not as vain as you used to be,” Yunho said with a smile. Jae made a face and pushed him over as he jabbed his fingers in all of Yunho’s ticklish spots to hear Yunho’s laughter echo off of the walls. Served him right. Jae left Yunho panting and spent on the mattress as he went down to take a shower and make an early lunch for himself.

By the time his lover was out of the shower, Jae was just finishing up his own lunch and climbing his way up to the roof with a vial in hand as well as one gun to rest in his lap in case someone decided to sneak up on him. Just as he was getting settled, Yunho popped out to give him a kiss and left to go meet with the other wolves, so Jae had the place to himself—mostly—for the afternoon. Sometimes the pigeons poked at him if they were around. He once killed one by accident with his physical shields and had absorbed its lifeforce before even thinking about it. Before each session, he would sprinkle bread crumbs on the other side of the roof to keep the damn birds occupied. He didn’t want Yunho to think he was killing them on purpose if it happened again. Their power was too weak to change much anyway.

The afternoon ticked by as he worked and reworked his shields. He ever so carefully trained to build complex shields as fast as he could in case he ever got attacked by something that got the jump on him. From the kinds of vampires he’d run into so far, Jae had modified his shields for those types of attacks and others he was imagining himself. If there was a vampire that could manipulate electricity and power like the first assassin, Jae assumed there were some out there that might control things like fire and water. He hadn’t known how to test the shields at first, but he sure did try. In the end, Jae used the sun and rain to test low level shields and hoped that a higher level would protect against the real thing, but was all a guessing game. He would never know until he met one.

By the end of his session, Jae was tired and sore from sitting in the same position for too long. He stretched for a little while before he climbed back down into the loft and was caught by Yunho once he was inside. He practically fell into his lover’s arms, relaxing finally as Yunho hefted him up and carried him to the couch. They had this down so well that he even knew exactly how Jae liked to lay on the couch now. Once he was settled comfortably, it made Jae smile to see Yunho hand him a cup of tea and honey to add. Jae said a quiet thanks as he squeezed some honey into the tea and felt a kiss on his cheek. A smile played on his lips before he downed the cup and promptly passed out in front of the television talking at his lover.

Jae finally came around with a soft groan as the light was fading from the windows. He sat up and stared at some documentary on the dynasties of Egypt as his mind slowly woke up. A yawn escaped him as he stretched and sat himself properly on the sofa as he reached out to the table next to it to a glass of water that had been left there. He had to smile at how regular this routine had gotten. Even after gulping down every last drop, he was still thirsty and most of all, famished.

That was when all 66 kilos of Yunho hit his side and a small paper was shoved under his nose. Jae took the paper to pull it back so he could focus on it and found it to be one of the dinner coupons he’d given Yunho. The snot was asking for dinner when he was tired.

“Okay, I’ll bite. What do you want?” Jae found himself asking with a grin.

“Pancakes.” Yunho smiled.

“Pancakes? That’s it?” Jae raised an eyebrow. “You want to waste one of these coupons on pancakes?”

“I like pancakes.” Yunho pouted his best pout. “You make the best.”

“It’s just pancake mix!” Jae laughed.

“Well you flip them better than I do!” Yunho poked him with a laugh. “Besides, I’d eat anything you make.”

Jae had to smile at that. “Alright. Pancakes it is.”

He had to admit, he was pretty damn good at flipping the pancakes, even when Yunho demanded they be huge like the ones he could get at the restaurant. Jae just rolled his eyes with a smile and complied. Yunho had used the coupon so he followed orders like a good chef.

While Jae devoured his own plate, slathered in syrup and fruit, he watched as Yunho scarfed his dinner down and glanced over at the TV every once in a while to pay attention to the show that was playing. Amused, Jae suggested Yunho go watch.

“But you made me dinner!” he protested and shoveled another bite in.

“It’s not going to kill me if you sit at the couch Yunho,” he replied with a grin. “I’m not a girl.”

“True. I knew there was a reason I loved you,” the wolf grinned and carted his plate to the couch as Jae just laughed and kept eating. He vaguely listened to the television as he stuffed his face. But then his attention caught on the bottles on the table sitting next to the butter, all for the pancakes. Lined up were chocolate, honey, caramel and syrup. For a moment, he just stared at them, but then he began to consider them. Chocolate was too runny, and so was syrup. Caramel was only good warmed up but then it might burn and it got all hard when it cooled off. Honey was most definitely perfect—not too runny nor too difficult to control, but it took some time and effort to get off. And a bonus, Yunho’s body temperature would keep it at the perfect viscosity. A smirk overtook his lips as he took his last bite. He was tired, but not too tired. Definitely perfect. If Yunho didn’t think he was being the way he had in California, then maybe Jae would pull his more amorous side out again. Most of the time, he was just too lazy, but tonight he felt devious.

Jae washed his plate off and took Yunho’s when his lover handed it to him. He rinsed them and put them in the dishwasher before Yunho caught his lips when he turned. Damn Yunho was good, but he could be better. Maneuvering his lover back, Jae got him to stop against the table. He felt more interest in the kiss and decided there was no turning back now, so might as well go for it. Jae tugged gently on Yunho’s shirt to get his lover to pull it off. This was going much easier than he thought it might. He tossed his own shirt away and started on his lover’s pants as he distracted the taller man with his lips. Soon the jeans hit the floor, followed soon after by underwear and Jae pushed Yunho to sit up on the table. This was going to be fun. He let Yunho kiss down his neck as he reached behind his lover to grab the bottle of honey. Confirming it was the correct bottle, he stole another kiss before he began to drop kisses down Yunho’s chest. Yunho leaned back on his arms as Jae licked around his lover’s navel before he glanced up with a smirk and showed off the bottle in his hand.

“Y-You’re kidding, right?” Yunho asked with a wary glance at the bottle.

“Why in the world would I kid?” Jae dropped a few more kisses below Yunho’s navel before he crawled up on the table to push Yunho down on it. “Don’t worry, I swear to clean you up real good in the shower afterward,” he promised with a deep kiss as he drizzled some of the honey down the center of Yunho’s chest. With a devious smirk (and a kiss to the tip of his lover’s nose) Jae shifted down to lick, suck and kiss his way down the line of honey he’d poured. He couldn’t let himself miss the way his lover squirmed and moaned softly under the work of his tongue. He enjoyed that part far too much.

Jae experimented in various spots with the honey, leaving red spots all over Yunho’s chest before he finally drizzled the honey over his lover’s cock to get a heated look from Yunho’s eyes. Damn if that wasn’t hot. Jae crawled up to drown himself in another kiss, teasing his lover’s tongue with his own. Yunho knew what was coming and Jae just couldn’t help himself. He teased a finger through the honey on his lover’s cock and sucked on it as he retreated downward. The moan that escaped Yunho made Jae smirk as he leaned down and dragged his tongue over his lover’s sensitive skin. Yunho’s body twisted slightly with a gasp as Jae sucked at the head, quite content with the taste of the honey. It wasn’t until he began to take more of his lover in that Yunho’s hips bucked up and Jae decided to use a bit of force. He pushed Yunho’s hips down on the table and pulled back to look up.

“No moving.” He scowled when Yunho whimpered at him. “I can stop if you want.”

“No!” Yunho snapped and let his head fall back to hit the table with a thud as Jae smirked.

Jae slipped off the table and pulled Yunho up to sit at the edge. He placed Yunho’s hands on the edge of the table and grinned. “Stay,” he commanded as Yunho’s eyes half glared, half melted and the taller man stole a kiss. Jae liked it quite a bit when Yunho gave in to him.

When the kiss ended, Jae sucked a drop of honey off his own finger to watch Yunho’s mouth drop open. He loved making Yunho want him. Licking honey he’d left behind on Yunho’s chest, Jae made his way back down as he poured just a bit more of the sweet liquid over Yunho’s erection before he leaned over to suck gently at it. He swore Yunho’s gasp echoed off the walls and would have grinned in any other situation. Yunho’s grip on the table made it creak as Jae knew he was trying to keep from moving. And Jae just sucked leisurely on his lover’s cock, slowly stripping the sensitive skin of the sweet flavor coating it. As Jae swirled his tongue around to get every last bit of the honey off, he felt Yunho’s legs tense under his hands and arms. Yunho was close. He sucked a bit harder at the skin, as his fingers teased up and down the inside of his lover’s thighs. Yunho didn’t last much longer after that.

Jae swallowed what he could, licking the rest off as Yunho leaned back on his elbows, panting. Jae rested his chin on his arms that crisscrossed over Yunho’s thighs with a contented smile at the way Yunho’s chest moved up and down as he breathed.

“You haven’t done that for a long time,” Yunho said through his breaths, tossing a grin at Jae.

“I figured you deserved it.” Jae climbed up and stole a kiss. “Good thing we know how to clean up now, right?”

Yunho winced. “It was a bit painful last time,” he said with a soft smile.

“I’ll clean you up like I promised,” Jae replied and claimed his lover’s lips again. And indeed, he did clean his lover in the shower as promised.

What Jae didn’t know was that Yunho had decided to make sure he was too tired to walk by the end of the shower, but in the end, Jae didn’t mind. He smiled to himself as they curled up in bed together. Light disappeared from the bedside table as Yunho pulled him close and a contented sigh escaped him.

That was why he liked Yunho.
