Part 11

The vampire kept his promise, so to speak. He never let their friendship only be about sex. You’s libido, however, begged to differ. No matter how much they did normal things all day, there were times when You couldn’t help but be turned on by the way Gackt moved or touched him. It wasn’t the vampire’s fault. Well, sometimes it was, because there were times he did it to get a rise out of You, but for the most part the young man found himself trying to ignore the little things he noticed that turned him on. Gackt found it very amusing and admitted he loved the way he could feel You’s blood boil because of him. This left You wondering if he made Gackt’s blood rush at all.

You was very surprised to realize that he’d been at the castle for quite a long time when he got an early Christmas package from his father. He had almost asked Gackt if he could go home and spend the day with his father, but in his letter, Hiro told You that eventually he would have to spend a Christmas or two away from his father and that the experience would do him good. The young man felt bad leaving his father alone for Christmas, but had an odd feeling that Hiro had something planned so he wouldn’t be alone. His father also told him not to come home because he had a feeling Namie would be looking for him. He didn’t need any further convincing.

When Ren mentioned that he was going to stay at the castle for Christmas, You became curious and found out that he visited the village and his family often. In fact, he was the only palace resident who had been given permission to leave. Ren told him that his father was going to take his place at his mother’s table for the holidays, and You felt relieved. He sent his gift to his father along with Ren and felt happy with the arrangement. It made him feel a little guilty to like being away from his father, but Hiro had been right. The experience would do him good. The people at this castle were like another family to him now, and he wanted to enjoy spending the holidays with them.

He found that gift giving in the castle was a happy, but simple affair, since they couldn’t leave and buy things for one another. Everyone who gave presents made them for the person they were giving them to. You found the gesture to be very close to the heart and found that the residents enjoyed it as well. They swore that when the curse was lifted, they would keep giving their loved ones what they made. You wondered what he could make for Gackt. It wasn’t long before a revelation hit him like a ton of bricks and he hurried to carry out his idea.

He found that Christmas was also a big to-do in the castle. They had a huge dinner, a dance and present exchange. This left Gackt with very little time to spend with the young man since he had to oversee the preparations. Every once in a while he got extremely annoyed with something and You would calm him and help him with his anger, but for the most part, he enjoyed it all. At night, he would play piano for You to calm himself, among other things. During the week, You was careful to make sure that Gackt was busy as he worked on the man’s present, and hid it well. Once he finally had it finished, he practiced it a few times a day until he was satisfied. It was perfect. And just in time, Christmas was tomorrow!

Gackt of course didn’t eat anything at the dinner, but sipped at a glass. You noticed that it looked suspiciously like blood the last few times he’d been sipping it at dinner. He wouldn’t have been surprised if it was either, and for some reason, it didn’t bother him or anyone else.

After the dinner, everyone participated in the ballroom and danced their hearts out until it was announced that gift exchanges should take place and everyone shuffled to one side of the room. You was about to follow Ren when Gackt took his hand and they slipped out. They snuck up to Gackt’s room to exchange their gifts in private.

“I’m sorry we haven’t seen or spoken much this last week,” Gackt said as he sat in one of the chairs. “I’ve been busy helping the arrangements and finding time to hide and make your present.”

“You didn’t say anything to me all day. I was starting to wonder what you were hiding.” You smiled as he sat in the chair across from the vampire.

“I could say the same of you.” Gackt winked. “Would you like to go first, or shall I?”

“You go first.” You smiled. “I’ll have to get your gift from my room.”

The vampire raised an eyebrow as he stood. “Is that so?” He moved away to his wardrobe and dug around in it before pulling out a nicely wrapped box. He returned and sat on the floor, motioning for You to do the same. “Merry Christmas,” he said quietly in the firelight as he held the package out to You. The young man took it and opened it carefully, smiling at the gift that lay inside. He reached in and pulled out a small wooden box, looking at its intricate design to see his name on it.

“It’s beautiful,” he murmured as he turned it in his hands.

“Open it.”

You did as he was told and saw items with which to clean his violin and heard a familiar tune. “This is the song you let me name!” He smiled widely as he thought back to that night when Gackt finally finished the piano piece he’d been letting You hear. The blonde liked it so much that the vampire let him name it.

Gackt nodded. “It’s your song. I also found some things you can use to clean your violin so I thought you could use those.”

The blonde beamed at his gift, listening to it play his favorite song, the song he often requested Gackt play for him on the piano at night. And with something for his violin! He couldn’t have asked for a better present. “Thank you so much.” He leaned closer and hugged the vampire.

“You’re very welcome,” Gackt replied and pressed a kiss to his lips. “Now you can listen to the song whenever you want.”

You smiled. “I won’t have to bug you to play it all the time.”

Gackt laughed. “So, what did you make me?”

“I…” This time the blonde blushed. “I wrote you a song.”

“You did?” The vampire’s face lit up. “Come, come. I want to hear it.”

“Okay,” You replied and set his box to the side to retrieve his violin. He hoped Gackt would like the music he wrote. He quickly gathered his already tuned violin and hurried back to see Gackt sitting between the chairs on the floor, waiting patiently. You checked to make sure his violin was in tune and smiled when he saw that the vampire was getting impatient.

“Have you named it?” Gackt asked.

“Not yet. I was going to give you the honor after you heard it.”

“Good.” The vampire smiled.

You placed his bow on the strings and lost himself in the song.

You could hear the servants singing in another part of the castle and smiled. With one hand, he reached to the bedside table and picked up his music box. He opened it to hear his song play quietly as he gazed at it. There was a sneaking suspicion he had that Gackt wrote the song for him, but he didn’t say anything.

“The song you wrote me was lovely too,” Gackt said from his chest.

“Your song,” You told him. “You named it.”

The vampire smiled and shifted closer to press a kiss to You’s lips, which the young man leaned up into. He felt that Christmas away from home wasn’t half bad—especially when he got to spend it with someone like Gackt.

A knock echoed from the door and Gackt slipped out of the bed to grab a robe and answer it. He spoke quietly to the person outside as You closed his music box and set it on the table again before he sat up. Gackt pulled the door farther open to let Ren in.

“Wow,” You said when he saw the boxes he, Cha and Hiromi were carrying. Cha winked at the young man, making him blush a little, and Hiromi squawked in surprise, dropping all the presents she’d been carrying.

“Oh my god! I knew it!” she exclaimed as she pointed at You. “I knew you two were together!”

You’s blush deepened as Gackt rolled his eyes in amusement. He was sort of surprised that the other servants didn’t know, but he was kind of glad they didn’t. He wondered if Hiromi would say anything.

“Hiromi, you shouldn’t tell anyone okay?” Cha said quietly as he helped her pick up the presents she dropped. “Let them have their privacy while they can.”

She nodded and saluted. “I will keep my mouth zipped!”

“I’ll make sure,” Ren told them and winked, directing her and Cha out to leave the two men alone.

“You don’t want anyone else knowing?” You asked quietly.

Gackt shook his head and dropped the robe before climbing onto the bed again. “If you think Ren is a matchmaker, you should see the rest of my staff.”

“I see,” he replied as the vampire crawled onto his lap and laid his head on his shoulder. “Is something wrong? You’ve been pretty quiet lately. I know you were busy, but you’re still quiet now.”

Gackt sighed as they wrapped their arms around one another. “I got a letter from my parents.”

“Ah. Bad news?”

“They didn’t want to come home for Christmas. I was hoping now that my temper was better, they would come home for a while, but they refused.” He was quiet for a moment. “It hurt.”

“I’m sorry,” You murmured and rubbed the vampire’s back gently.

“I used to be angry with them, but I miss them. I feel pathetic for missing them,” Gackt said quietly.

“You’re not pathetic. I miss my father everyday,” the young man admitted. “You can’t be pathetic for missing someone.”

“I’m glad you’re here.” Gackt sat up to nuzzle You’s nose. “If you weren’t here, I would probably be tearing furniture apart. And that doesn’t sound like it has much holiday cheer, does it?”

You pulled the smaller man into a tight hug. “I’m sure they miss you too. They just remember you in a different way. When they get back, you’ll have lifted your curse, and they’ll be proud.”

“I hope so,” the vampire hugged him back.

As they held one another, You began to worry. He had a feeling that Gackt wasn’t telling him everything that had gone on between him and his parents. They had fought about something that tore them apart, but what had it been? Why did it force him over the edge to become so obsessive and angry? How could he break the curse? So man questions ran through his mind, but none that he would dare ask the vampire. He knew he should wait until Gackt was ready to tell him, but that didn’t mean his curiosity was going to take a vacation. He would have to be patient and wait for Gackt to feel comfortable with the subject—but how long would that take?
